The Blocks option in Reason is brilliant. You have multiple areas to try ideas out without affecting the main project and can then add any of those ideas to the main project. Brilliant. Highly underrated. What would you add to it?

it's a static one should be dynamic scale/chord/voice dependent, Cubase uses chord track in the background as main building blocks

should be similiar, so some chord track reference > blocks > the difference in the top and both top ones can be depend on the bottom scale/chord structure layer, Cubase can work superfast with scales/chords because the other parts are depend on them(follow their changes) + Cubase has track versions(so different (chord) versions can be tried without too much pain)

I love fl studio. Fl doesn't have a similar feature though?

I wish they'd make it the basis of a performance mode like Ableton Live's Session view - that would be great!

Blocks are powerful. If each instrument could have it's own dedicated blocks (or patterns) then I think it would be even better... But then you'd be approaching the functionality of Orion.

Doesn't it though? You can just use each block for a specific instrument?

Then how could you layer instruments on top of one another? Blocks only play exclusively.

Gotcha! messing with it right now. If we could have more than one lane for drawing in blocks we could overlay different time signatures OMG

Allow more than one blocks lane to be drawn into the Song area and be overlapped.. you could have one block in say 6/8 and another block in 7/8 or anything you can imagine!

I'm on 6.5 anyone know if there have been any updates to Blocks since 6.5?

Is there any daw that will allow a different timeline per track?

Renoise 3 has phrases which can each have individual independent playback settings. You can have say, one phrase running in 3/4, one in 5/8, one in 13/16, whatever silly choice you want, you can even knock up quintuplets, septuplets, nintuplets (?), all sorts of bollocks. Then you stick a trigger note in the main pattern, one per track for each phrase, and they'll all happily run together as long as your pattern has enough steps. You're inevitably going to end up with weird loop aberrations, but hey, it's part of the fun.

Damn that sounds cool! I have been looking for the same type of stuff for a long time now. Thanks. will check it out!

Squaredheads Nora also can work with patterns on patterns (same way as FL Studio does it, just it has reason because the patterns are loopable ones)

and can be used in any DAW, can work nicely together with the chord track of Cubase (which hasn't got pattern/clip support by default) patterns can be sliced and can be made unique too same way as is in FL, its piano roll also working with same way as FL, can transpose too
