If I'm not incorrect, it is the only option. I have a memory making an interview with Propellerheads a long time ago and they said Recycle is and will always be the only program on the market that will be able to create Rex files.

But I've always been happy with it. Has a really good slicing engine.

i've been using it for years. once i get my samples edited ( it takes like no time whatsoever btw, it's a very straightforward and dare i say, easy program to use)
one the samples are converted to rex most daws can see the slice info and aso you have your slices already done, you just re-arrange to suit.
i am not on my music machine at the mo.., but i could check later on about the export options etc..

Having used Soundforge forever, I've never gotten into ReCycle, or owned/used Reason, but I'm considering this also. I notice Reason "Essentials" ($69.00) records audio in, and has an (albeit simplistic) editor built-in. It then loads the sample/recording into its pad thingy, and maybe Dr.Rex?

Does it (Props) allow access to these recorded/edited files, or are they exclusively locked into Reason? Are they REX-2?

The sale ends today, so any help would be appreciated, as I will get one of them.

[aside] TheoM, unless the above question gets an affirmative "export" response, then yes, ReCycle is the only application that creates REX-2 (stereo), Zero-X BeatCreator (however) exports as REX-1 (mono), which is mainly why I never went with/needed ReCycle.

You can export .rx2 files from the full version of Reason. It's not as straight forward and lacks the envelope, transient and eq of Reycle, though you could probably find other ways of doing that. However I don't know whether it's available in Essentials.

Thank YOU. I suspect not (in Essentials), though I can't find any reference to it being a go/no go, but it would be really cool if it does, as indeed, I have many options for applying what it "lacks".

I should add, that afaik it's not possible in Reason to adjust the sensitivity re. the number of slice points added. You can of course delete unwanted slices but needless to say it's a lot easier with Recycle.
Edit: Having said that, the good thing about Reason in this regard is that you can record directly in to it and easily transfer a rx2 to the rex player. I think Recycle would be greatly improved if you could record in to it and if you could trigger slices with midi.

I noticed that in a couple of vids, thanks... I think ReCycle is my purchase.

Noted that feature also, and it would be handy, but the limited "slice-points" sensitivity doesn't fit with my intentions/needs. Thanks again for your input.

It would be nice to record into it, indeed, and Soundforge has had midi triggering of "slices" (markers) since forever... and if the markers are saved with the file, apps like FL read them, and can also map/trigger those points... curious omission on props part.

And in this vid @1:21, the little editing window indicates you can "snap sample start/end to transients ", and "crossfade" loop. Which should/might help with your glitches in non-percussive samples.

This is the biggest deal to me:

The envelope allows you to apply an AD envelope and stretch each slice, where stretch applies a "tail" to each slice - useful if you know that your loop will be used at a slower tempo.

But, since you can't demo it, who knows. No, that slop they provide is NOT what I want it for and it's really tough to know if it's really something I'll use.

I predict licenses showing up in the marketplace in a week or two though

Yes, the 'envelope' tip was valuable for what I will be doing, thank you for the link. There certainly is a potential for it showing-up in the marketplace at the current sale price. I have missed it several times, so I grabbed it "this time". I'm already seeing a LOT of things I will be doing with it beyond "beats", and TBTH my marketing ambitions require it. Quite pleased with my decision, actually.

Recycle is probably my most used piece of software and has been since i have owned it, it does the things i did by hand much much quicker and still has one of the nastiest sounding transient designers around too.

so recycle.. conversion of aiff and wav to rex..
