How does copyright laws work?

These seems to be a pretty regular problem for people at KVR, more notably in the development of vsti etc then in music performance/writing.

As I work in the field (well only vaguely at the edges of Australian Copyright law, I mainly work in other legal areas) would people be interested in a briefish overview of the law as a "discussion paper" or something just to give a very brief overview of what is involved. Of course the rules/regulations would be based on Australian law but would still be a pretty good indication of the rest of the world?

If enough people are interested I will put something up so people can have a read.

Twister, if I were you, I would also worry that these remixes might get released any time in the future by that company and what they told you might just be a cover... They had access to them, didn't they?
