Neumann KH120A. They were a bargin at £1200 a pair, you can get them for around £850 a pair now and its well worth it. The Focal CMS65 would also be up there but a little bit more expensive and the Adams A7X/A8X are always worth a look.

Yikes, that is a bargain.

I guess that's the exchange rates working in our favour?

There really are no BEST monitors.
There are lots of reasonable monitors to be had.

Its how well you know your monitors and how your environment reproduces them.
Using several different monitors and environments can be very helpful.

Also, using a wireless hub that transmits audio to different rooms (cars) and speakers is a great way to test mixes.

Thanks guys. I worry the kh will not produce the lows needed for the style. The Focal would kd be nice but too much money.

Yeah, I get that impression, although they've sold well enough that some economies of scale may be kicking in too.

I've been fighting the urge to pick up a pair for a few months now, its not as if I need them... but...

Yeah, I hesitated at first, but I can think of a number of DnB guys writing on these without a sub without problems, so thought it was worth a punt. Flat to 50htz and then a roll off on the bottom octave after that your not hearing or even possibly feeling it on small speakers. Worth asking if you've got a room that is treated & tuned enough to handle under 40htz?

Understand your hesitation though, in that case I'd say the Adam A8X's but that is going to come in around the same level as the Focals. Maybe some second hand?

In fact thinking about this futher, making 2 way speakers do the subsonics smears the whole sound in the low and mids, so 3 ways would be prefered if you've got a room big enough and treated enough to handle below 40Htz.

I was just thinking the cheaper Focals with a sub, but upon totting it up it's hitting around £900 again.

Adam sub 7 + pair of F7's comes in around £750 or a sub 8 with those speakers around £850, probably more than fine with sub 7 in a small room however, so I might suggest thats worth a look on that budget.

Cheers mate. Have a small room I think that's half the prob with the current vxt8. Lovely monitors but just too much bass I think.

I seem to keep coming back to the a7x but worry about the low end not cutting it. Have u heard the f7 at all.

Yeah, perfectly fine in smaller rooms, know plenty of bass music guys using them. The A8X's give an extra half octave if you studio can handle it, but if your in a small room your likely to create more issues with room responses than improve your monitoring.

Got mine for £720!! Bought as B-Stock but when they arrived the box had never been opened. Brand spanking new!

Loving them so far. Had some concerns about the bass on such small speakers, but actually this is not an issue at all. They're very flat, honest speakers (not particularly pretty sounding) and reveal truck loads of detail. Comparing them to my old speakers (Alesis M1 Active mk 2), it's night and day. It's like being able to hear right inside the mix. Great separation, great stereo imaging... Great speakers! :phones:
