Good little cheap plugin setup for techno & Acid producers for just under $300 USD

A friend likes Sharooz and wanted me to recommend him a setup so he could learn ways to make music like him. Here's what I basically put together.

Ok here are the plugins I recommended to him.

TAL-Bassline-101 : for $60 USD you get a super close emulation to the Roland SH-101. It sounds like the real deal and it's easy as cake to use.

So this is $120 USD for these two and they cover a lot of ground but I figured we would go a step further to really nail that 90s techno sound.


So I also recommended to also pick up the AudioRealism ADM & ABL3 bundle for $178.76 USD

the ADM has 9O9,8O8,6O6 so you are well covered.

ABL3 is a 3O3 and sounds pretty spot on IMO.


So that's pretty much a one stop shop i figured I would share to others who just want a quick and easy setup to make these types of sounds. You won't really need anything else for just under $300.00 USD

Err does he have a DAW?

I'm huge proponent of starting with very little. That way you don't get in the habit of thinking "as soon as o get this tool I'll be able to make the music I want to make"

If he has ableton or Fl studio he can make this stuff out of the box. Charlatan would be grat for this too.

What about effects? No compressor, EQ , delay or reverb? Perhaps he will use those supplied by the DAW (?)

Yah he is going to be buying Ableton Live 9 standard which has everything you need IMO.

He told me he wants to use a virtual synth that is closest for making those types of sounds.

If he is getting Live Standard yoou may need one synth, I would pick u-he Hive, diva or Fabfilter twin2 but just one of those.

A good samplepack: wave alchemy synth drums.

Acid lines to be fair, are as much about processing chain as anything, I used to just take a Nord lead and overdrive the hell out of it via cranked gains on a dirty analogue desk in the dark distant past when I used to dabble in such things (and hardware studios were the only game in town!).

I dare say satuation and compression on your channel strip and pretty much any synth (or effect plug in the chain) that has a self resonant frequency filter is going to do the job in a lot of cases.

Looking at the Ableton stock plugs, I'd go Analog > The drop > Saturator > Compressor and see how you get on, perhaps switch the chain around to see which order gives you the most control. If you still feel the need to go third party plugs after that, then fair enough. In fact I'm intrigued myself now to see what Ableton can do, I may have a fiddle with this myself this evening.
