I missed the vote for Chairman; did you all have an election without me?
Would like to see timeline movement in real time in phrase editor so timeline "cursor" runs like composition view.
Metronome in phrase editor isn't making any sound.

My first introduction to Euclidean rhythms was this Euclid MiniPak for Jamstix 3.
I have not yet tried out the new rhythm transfer function; is there a way to transfer over, as well (when applicable), any expressive note velocities from the source rhythm?

Thanks for reminder, I think I may have that one.tonedef71 wrote:My first introduction to Euclidean rhythms was this Euclid MiniPak for Jamstix 3.
Is there a reason that the chord, progressions, scales buttons, etc. are not viewable when in phrase editor mode as in composition mode?

I think I would like it to work that way, too.Musical Gym wrote:Would like to see timeline movement in real time in phrase editor so timeline "cursor" runs like composition view.
When enabled, I have only ever heard it sound while recording a phrase. Do you remember it sounding during phrase playback? If not, do you think that it should, like it does in the composition window?Musical Gym wrote:Metronome in phrase editor isn't making any sound.

Apart from the Composition tab, I have only seen those buttons show up in one other tab: the soon-to-be-removed Idea Tool tab.Musical Gym wrote:Is there a reason that the chord, progressions, scales buttons, etc. are not viewable when in phrase editor mode as in composition mode?

I guess it might be useful to have the option of hearing the metronome in playback as well as record in phrase editor. I wasn't hearing it during playback in phrase editor. Then I started going back and forth from composition to phrase and it may have started sounding in phrase when I had metronome turned on in both windows (not sure).
Why is Idea Tool being removed? All its functions now present in other windows/tabs?

I just took a look at the History tab in my installation of RC. It has entries that go back to the end of January:

I guess I can join the "Dummies Club", too; I never truly understood the complex history feature in RC, especially how all of that persisted history plays into the "Undo" functionality. I am sure there is much value to be gained from the way that this is implemented, but I find it very confusing.
For example, what should happen if I Revert back to any of these entries, such as "Composition opened"? How would RC change its state? Does CTRL-Z cause RC to continue to march back up the history timeline every time I press it? By the way, which composition was opened?
What would happen if I am in the Composition tab, and I lost track of how many times I had clicked the CTRL-Z to undo; would I "undo" away my current composition (without a backup) if RC reverted back to the moment when it opened a composition at startup?
While working in RC, I tend to change my mind quite a bit, so I often find myself trying to Undo the last action (or a whole sequential set of last actions). I have found in the past that this can get me into trouble: when RC has had enough of my over-usage of the Undo feature, it tends to crash. When that happens, I take a break from RC; this has led to a whole bunch of incomplete "works-in-progress" with RC.

If anything, it would make the metronome more consistent throughout RC.Musical Gym wrote:I guess it might be useful to have the option of hearing the metronome in playback as well as record in phrase editor.
Presently, I am unable to reproduce that scenario when moving back and forth between Composition and Phrase tabs with metronome turned on in both.Musical Gym wrote:I wasn't hearing it during playback in phrase editor. By the way, the playback in the Composition tab is independent of the playback in the Phrase tab. You can have looped playback happening in each of these two tabs simultaneously; it can sound rather cacophonous!
Those functions eventually will be. From the looks of this screenshot, the plan is to incorporate the functionality of the Idea Tool into the main Composition workflow areas:Musical Gym wrote:Why is Idea Tool being removed? All its functions now present in other windows/tabs?

Thanks for info on Idea Tool. I often wonder why the composition still plays when I go to Phrase window; should it automatically Stop on tab exit, or is there a benefit to having it continue to run?

I remember discussing this topic before, but I cannot remember the explanation for this particular piece of functionality.Musical Gym wrote:I often wonder why the composition still plays when I go to Phrase window; should it automatically Stop on tab exit, or is there a benefit to having it continue to run?

EDIT: Here is a link to last June when some phrase editor playback questions were raised: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 2#p6158832
It looks like the justification for concurrent playback between the Composition and Phrase Editor tabs was never actually given.

about the undo history. i agree that 90% of the time, a simple button on the main composition page should be there to just undo the last edit. maybe with a redo feature to compare edits?
for those OOPs! moments..

I was thinking along the same lines... I am seriously considering removing the History tab entirely as it confuses even the most experienced power usersnexussynth wrote:about the undo history. i agree that 90% of the time, a simple button on the main composition page should be there to just undo the last edit. maybe with a redo feature to compare edits?

Actually, I am hopeful you do not remove this tab. I have had several occassions where this information proved quite useful in finding a problem I created and a point to go back to.musicdevelopments wrote:I was thinking along the same lines... (FWIW There's only been a couple of times I became confused by this information
Having said this, I agree with an "Undo" button on the main composition page, although <CTRL>Z works very well for me.
Although, this ability confuses me the most
It's hard to follow the super quick changes to know where I'm at now
JM2C though
Cheers!

Yes, of course, all note velocities are transferred when dragging and dropping rhythm patterns.tonedef71 wrote:I have not yet tried out the new rhythm transfer function; is there a way to transfer over, as well (when applicable), any expressive note velocities from the source rhythm?
