Honestly, I have all the instruments I could ask for other than possibly ArcSyn, an upgrade to Reaktor 6, and even more remotely, Falcon.

What I really need now is sound-manipulating effects.

I'm listening to a member's album right now, and I'm hearing filters and delays and reverbs and stereo-field effects, but there are some effects that, I'm not sure if they're coming from the instruments or external effects, but they're making sounds I can't identify.

It doesn't matter the genre I'd like to work in, because I can't even nail that down, myself. I'd just like to hear suggestions for sound-changing effects that people think are anywhere from purely interesting to absolute necessities in their toolbox.

I have The Drop on my list, and I already have the old-but-trusty Warmverb as well as the tried-and-true ValhallaRoom, but otherwise I'm stuck with what comes with Studio One v3 and whatever I can get out of Reaktor 5 (Reaktor Ensemble suggestions also MORE than welcome! Paid or free.).

I'm considering AT4. No, put that on my list, as well.

I started playing around with electronic music in 2009 and have been a member here since, but mostly it's been noodling in my spare time, and really, I've spent almost no time nor attention on effects. It's been all instruments. Time to dive into effects.

Thank you in advance. I'll look around in the Effects forum, but it's all very overwhelming for me at this point. I don't know where to start!

Warmverb is still good. You could get this if you can find some use for it, and it's free

Though it's 32bit but if it works, it's fine.

But generally audiodamage, meldaproductions and sugarbytes make creative fx. Of course there are others too but those three come to my mind instantly

Own Predator? It comes with a separate fx plug that has some colorful options.

Free for Reaktor users, but if you like them you should consider donating something. These are easily on par with the quality you get in commercial reaktor stuff.

A lot of the effects that you're hearing in some songs are coming from several different effects in series, so go nuts with what you already have.

A great way to do this is to try something like Blue Cat's MB-7, which lets you layer several effects on different frequency bands. You can get some really crazy spectral-type effects this way, and it's pretty cheap.

Blue Phase - you really need to check out Tantra by Dmitry Sches! I absolutely love using it. You get about 8 different effects to combine in series or in 2 parallel layers. But the part I really like is that the effects are rhythmic. It has 32 steps of multi-stage envelopes. Many great presets to get you started.

Take a vocal sample, pad drone, or drum loop, then apply Tantra and you can get some really excellent results very quickly. And the price is quite reasonable.

+1 to that, some of the best Reaktor stuff around and well worth a donation

Also recommend looking at the Audio Damage effects, great for anything from subtle fx to sound mangling chaos, all reasonably priced and often able to pick them up at a bargain price in the KVR Markeplace

I think this is great advice...

You could listen to a thousand suggestion on what effects to use, but to be honest if you haven't reached the limits of what came with Studio One, then you will probably just end up throwing away money on commercial products OR just end up waisting space (and then end up cluttering your workflow).

Limitations are very rewarding. Don't underestimate the power of working within the confines of Studio One.

You'll have a better idea of what you personally need, as well as how a specific plugin is better for you vs another one.

I´m interested as well being always on the search for "new special effects". Do you have a link to that album?

Some often used effects are eg Effectrix by SugarBytes (or Turnado). Effectrix is used a lot by Shpongle (Simon Posford). Some guys using also NI Reaktor or NI GuitarRig (Infected Mushroom).
There are also some easy to use plugins from Vengeance (GlitchBitch).

I would demo at first some of the mentioned stuff by SugarBytes because they are well known for this kind of effects. Vengeance second (needs iLok).

I always wondered what FX Simon Posford used, some very interesting production indeed.
