correct.
Well in that case, that's really great to hear :). My goal was to put together something that captures the vibe, but with high-level sound design quality. The only reason I'm not charging $30+ USD for this set is because this time I borrowed a lot of work from previous products. I don't normally do that and don't plan on doing so after this anyway lol. I was playing with Extraterrestrial Origins recently and thought many of the intricate pads in there worked great in slow and soulful OVO type beats, which gave me the idea to do this. I figured putting some of those sounds in here would get them used more.

Still tempted because I trust your work - you, the Unfinished and Aiyn Zahev are my favs by far.

Love your work on SubBoomBass : )
Hi there,

Of the patches that were borrowed from other XS products, it varies. Some were moderately edited to fit more closely into what I what I was looking for, some old patches had minor edits to sound better, and others didn't need any extra work. The general OVO sound is a LOT like stuff I've already been doing for years, which is what inspired this approach.

Glad you liked the SubBoomBass pack :). I really need to sit down and make a brand new collection for that synth. It'll have to be a bass-heavy urban style set, though, as it seems that's where SBB really shines the most.

Here are the sets I borrowed patches from:

Extraterrestrial Origins (picked the most mainstream sounding pads from there)
Apocalyptic Visions (mainly bells + the most mainstream pads of the bunch)
Straight Up Hip Hop Volumes 1 & 2 (some leads, plucks and FX risers/stabs)
...and about 1 or 2 sounds each from 2 or 3 others.

The patch listing in the original post should be helpful, as it shows all the patches that were used, plus lists the new ones.

Thanks for the info regarding the patches.

Yeah SubBoomBass is such a go-to for me. If I feel a bass needs huge low end I know that SBB consistently delivers so I just find myself exploring that before anything else. I've also that it layers beautifully with other synths too, where you can mix it in subtly to thicken things up underneath other bass synths that might be lacking low frequencies. That's not to say it can't do leads and stuff too. The graffiti-laiden GUI probably is a detriment because it's not just a "hip hop bass synth" as it seems to be either marketed and/or perceived.

Actually a Xenos OVO pack for SBB would be suite :D

Next release:

"Pop Fusion Synths" for NI Massive

70 brand new patches aimed at the current sound of such artists as Ty Dolla $ign, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Drake and more. A lot of people these days are mixing elements of house music into urban style beats, and I'm right at home with that stuff :).

Got someone working on the MP3 right now, and will make the official release once that is finished.

wtf is 'OVO'?

LOL! You're not the first person to ask that :). "OVO" stands for "October's Very Own", which is Drake's record label. He and others under his label are putting out a certain general "sound" to their music that is quite popular in the hip hop community right now - warm, fuzzy, dreamy, with a bit of dirt underneath at times.

IMHO, the synth sounds they use are very good material for not just R'n'B/Soul, but a wide variety of other non-edm genres as well. Despite the fact that OVO stuff is the "in thing" right now, there's an all-encompassing and timeless quality to those types of sounds, which I like a lot.

It just seems people give any slight variation a label these days. I would have thought most real artists would prefer not to be labelled or to stick to a particular feel.

Gonna let the intro price on this run until Monday, Feb. 22nd. Definitely interested in doing a "volume 2", with all entirely new patches. Thought this first set would be a good chance to prove to OVO fans I can do it lol. Second time around, we're really gonna have some fun with this :). I personally favor the more downtempo and soulful side, so there'll definitely be lots of PND and Makonnen-flavored stuff.

Bumped for the weekend. We have until Monday to get this at a steep discount. Should be a good opportunity for those who've never tried XS products before.

Also running a smaller into discount special for my other recent release (Pop Fusion Synths):

Thanks, man :). Love this stuff, especially the slower tunes with lots of rolling hi-hats and other intricate work to fill the rhythmic space.
