using Reason , is a joy for me , the interface ,reliability, and the over all power of the included synths is substantial. I was not truely aware of the power and detail of these synths until I down loaded some of the home made patches

OT: Sup Drez. I'm kinda curious, did you find it difficult switching from a linear way of working (Tracktion) to a pattern/clip based way of working with L4? Or do you use Live in a linear way? Just curious since you used Tracktion.

I found the session view exhilirating! I took to it like a fish to water. I start my writing process in the session view. Then I take those and move them to the arrangement view to tweak left to right.

My mind works in timeslots. I can "see" my song better because I can write something that would might be cool later in the tune and just move it down in the "spreadsheet". Or if I come up with a cool break, I can save those clips to a scene and use them later.

For me, it comes down to the way my mind works. I don't start writing a song from left to right. I work on whatever creativity comes to mind. By using the session view, I store those little creative moments as clips and scenes that I can come back to or modify and remodify. Its sooooo easy to record what you are doing in session view by clicking the record button, start triggering scenes and clips, and it dumps those into the arrangment view. Hit TAB, and start tweaking the arrangement. Don't like it? No biggie, delete it and start over!

I'll have to admit the first time I saw Live1 advertised I thought "that looks awesome!...I'll never be able to get my head around it " ...but I'm glad I took the plunge

drez, you make a beautiful observation about "how my mind works"....

some interfaces for me seem impossible and yet others find the same interface ( GUI ?) wonderful. I believe differant people experience the same data in differant ways, as someone with a variation of dyslexia and mixed dominance and observed and pronounced as an intuitive learner, for example experience data (GUI) in anentirely differant way than people with out these traits

Reason could stay "stuck" on 2.5 for another year or more, as far as I'm concerned. I still don't feel like I've maxxed it out, and I've been using since 1.0 as have most of you.

And now I just got Peff's book "Power Tools For Reason" and I feel like a kid in a candy store again. 2.5 has some amazing potential that I would guess most of us are only remotely aware of.

I will certainly be one of the first to jump on 3.0 (or 2.6 or whatever is next) when it's released, but I'm in no rush. 2.5 still has a LOT of depth to plunder.

Peff's book is out? I remember seeing a few diagrams and such on his site about it (and boy, those were like digital pr0nography for me) but I had no idea it already came out.

I got three books when I purchased Reason, the 'Power tools' book is certainly aimed at people that are comfortable/experienced with Reason; although saying that after having Reason for a week I worked through parts of it without too much difficulty - although I have put it down until I get into Reason a bit more.

Peff's book should be bundled with the software..it really opened my eyes to alot of stuff I doubt I would have ever realized or considered on my own. It's quite a bit to chew on..a really great resource.

I'm another one who is happy with reason staying where it is for as long as it needs to. It is stable. There are a lot of sounds and loops avaliable (have you tried the electrmechanical refill?). I can just spend my time getting deeper into what I already have.

Peff is cool, but that split LR channel mixer thing
was completley bogus; it discouraged me from looking at the book. Although many write about awesome
reason routing rigs, I have eyet ot see any that impress me. I like samples and the NNxt is the playback device of choice. Ableton 4 puts an amazing
front end on Reason, whixh is fortunate--as props
seem to be giving Reason the Rebirth treatment.

By splitting the channel he is gaming the headroom
preset into Reason. If you look at his sample files
you can duplicate "improved" mix by just increasing gain on the stereo channel. Do a search--there has been a lot written of this--but there are many who support peff--its an interesting issue--regards pfj

oic. I thought you were referring to dual mono cabling BUT with a short delay patched into one of the channels. This is a technique I use all the time and to my ears the benefit is clear.

I hope with v3 they decide to totally redo the graphics of each module to allow the rack to fully expand to 1024px... or at least allow each module to run side-by-side. Looking at 'skinny scope' got very annoying very quickly.. and it doesnt look it has changed in 2.0 or 2.5 hrmms...

They have to keep it looking like this so that people who've never seen a soft synth before will think Reason is "...amazing - it looks just like a whole RACK of synths!".

Perhaps if they added VST support all of the problems would be got rid of... But Reason's become a cult, and commonsense will not prevail.
As for it being 'rock solid' as its afficionados keep saying - so what? Protracker was 'rock solid', but who uses that nowadays?
