I'm looking for a new case.

I know I can sound "proof" any case, but would like suggestions for a well built aluminum deal.

I can't seem to find the correct link, cuz I know it was discussed before...

I just assembled a p4 3ghz system which is almost unhearable. I used a Silentmaxx ST-11 Midi-Tower and a Zalman CNPS7000 cooler.

Whilst upgrading my new computer I have been using Nexus parts. I now have their iStyle case. It does keep a certain amount of noise in, but not much. Without using soundproofing materials I don't think you are going to get a case that is quiet on its own.

They have recently released their new Breeze case. Which comes with power supply and noise absorbtion material.

Another apparently quiet case is the Antec Sonata

Be careful using noise absorbtion materials though as you system and cpu temps could go up a bit.

Are you going for an AMD CPU ?

i have an Athlon XP 2000+ and the fans are horribly noisy.

i have since then bought an Zalman fan with another specialized low noise power supply from a company i cant remember, (Its a blue PSU).

Since then, my PC is VERY quiet.

I suggest you go to www.quietpc.com and give the guys a call.

By the way, the case has almost no influence in the noise compared to silent fans.

Good luck

Which fans do normally more noise: the ones from the power supply or from the processor?

The power-supply, because they're on the outside.
Until you silence them, then your CPU-fan is the noisier one.

Mine sounds like part of an airport terminal  – I have six fans running and need them in this weather. Freaking hot here atm. :-o

But some good links as I need to get this noise level down – and keep cool. :)

Best regards,

I decided to go with the Antec Sonata.

It does what I need it to do, is not to expensive, and I really dig the look :D

So, replacing the fans for the power-supply and CPU by silent ones should reduce the noises remarkably and would be a cheap solution. Are there any difficulties replacing these fans or is it a simple procedure?

The only problem is the amount of money you have to spend with silencing your PC you could well be buying a new mohterboard/cpu/memory combination for the same price. Sad really how expensive it gets to lower it a few dB.

1 dB = 10 $ :D

But you´ve to realize that 3 dB less is equal to reducing the noise by 50%.

I've wasted so much money trying to make my PC quiet. I finally gave up and created a computer cubby-hole in my garage. My music room is now *so* much quieter -and- the computer runs cooler since I can run all the fans full-blast.

Well, it's not as bad as it used to be. There's more and bigger manufacturers in the game compared to, say, three years a go.

as www.silentpc.co.uk will show.

Looking at that it's only about £50-100 to get a completely silent system (well, almost), depending on what parts you already have.

I'd call that cheap in fact.

I'm getting one of those Acousticases and their best CPU cooler for my next major upgrade.
