Metronome VST

I would love to see a fully featured VST metronome for mac and windows.

One that allows all sorts of counting features including accenting specific beats and all types of time signatures.

Including a big screen option visually showing the count

and Voice counting

with different counting system options

including Konokol!

There are more than a few amazing ios metronome apps right now.. It would be great to see a vst version..

Drumjam for IOS does the Indian rhythm and konokol counting VERY well but it's not a vst metronome

I contacted Robert on facebook and asked if there were any plans for a VST version of Bounce Metronome, this is his reply:

“I wish. But sadly, no plans. The thing is that it's not my area of expertise, and a bit of a steep learning curve.

I do have an idea of a way to do it that might work, which is to start up Bounce Metronome as a separate app invisibly in the background, and then the VST plugin would communicate with Bounce Metronome via shared memory - that might possibly work on the PC, though not on Linux or Mac.

I used that method to write an MFX plugin that interacts with Bounce. But though it worked after a fashion it was a bit unsatisfactory with latency issues that I was never able to track down (communication via memory was instant so the latency happened somewhere else) and had a very rudimentary UI - but was a lot of work to write.

So, it's a risk as it might not work, And also likely to be a bit of a steep learning curve, as I've never written a VST plugin and I think they are also written in C++ and I usually code in plain C.

It's possible long term especially if some time I earn enough to employ someone else to do it, or I find an enthusiast who wants to write a VST to communicate with Bounce - and then if it worked they could sell the VST as a separate app so you buy the VST interface and Bounce as separate programs - but it would be a risk for them as it might not work.


Meanwhile, as someone said in the kvraudio forum conversationyou linked to - you can export midi tracks from Bounce, and the latest version lets you export a separate midi file for each part in the rhythm.

You can also send midi from Bounce to your DAW using virtual midi cables - for instance to play VST instruments in your DAW in real time from Bounce - then when you are happy with the rhythm, export it to midi and then import it into your DAW for more precise synchronization.

The new version now can send and receive MTS time codes which may help with synchronization a bit - synchronization via Midi has always been a bit of an issue with Bounce, but this is a better method than the midi clocks it uses otherwise“.

Bounce is amazing. Too bad there won't be a vst hopefully there is one out there that we are missing or one being worked on.

With a little bit of creativity you could implement what you want in any daw within an hour.

1) Make a recording of the syllables you need
2) Slice them up in separate WAV files
3) Load your fav drumcomputer in your DAW
4) Create a new kit and populate it's instruments with your syllable WAVs
5) Create a new pattern and put the proper syllable in the proper slice.

Presto !!

I was going to buy idrum today and do this for now but it's discontinued! I've done this type of stuff before and it works but a slick vst would be lovely. I see people complaing about their daws metronome all the time.

If there are any developers reading this.. Just jam all the expected features in and add support and templates for voices. Konokol and so on.
Post about it in the instruments or effects forum and I will help beta test
