mm.. but it looks simpler to me,
at least if you agree the following:
there are two kinds of musical instrument,
interactive (needs a player)
generative (doesn't need a player)
the Computer with audio output is a
generative musical instrument,
if you add a human interface (any)
it becomes an interactive musical instrument,
my ThinkPad is a musical instrument *too*, just like any electronic keyboard, Casio, Yamaha, etc...
it got keys to press, sound generator, amplifier and speakers, nothing misses
But of course a computer is a flexible tool and you can even just use it as calculator or audio recorder,
and blah blah, you know what it can do
it becames for what you use it for
