So you never do backups? What if a dev goes bankrupt, has worse Family issues, shuts down everything? You lose a nice piece of a product. You would do a backup of the telephone number of the girl you met yesterday, maybe on USB stick, on phone and HD so it is save for all times  but not of a paid SW product? :D
Induljon a banzáj!

Yep. Although I would agree that it's not the best manner that on a paid upgrade every link to former versions is removed without warning, it's pretty careless to not backup your software installer for expensive software.

+1

Just open a gmail account and get 15 GB of free cloud storage with google drive.

Unlike gmail, google drive lets user upload exe files, so those are safe there.

That is not the point here. I backup but as already said a few didn't get the latest update due to whatever.. ..same here. Btw. It's funny i have old other stuff still in my member account but not the latest 6.4.6 update because a paid upgrade is coming. Yes,yes we can contact support that makes sense for all sides. :)

Is that amount of money nothing for you? When George told me no download anymore I had to open my old backup database. No big deal, isn´t it? 8)
There are people who may not have updated their version of 6.x since they bought it who I think could legitimately expect to be able to download the latest version to which they are entitled. And things go wrong with backups. It's one thing to say devs do not have to offer a cloud service, but many do keep legacy downloads going for years.

Killing off downloads of an older version simply to push a paid update just looks cheap. It says "you're on a paid-update treadmill. Careful you don't fall off." It puts people off. Which is just bad business.

And, as I've found, the system randomly decides I haven't paid for something when I forked over the money little more than a month ago (and it was really only a change of copy protection), that doesn't inspire confidence either.

Of course, if you click to go the Members Area it says to login to: "Download latest installers."

Well, I have it backed up as I do with all my software. But I didn't download the latest update (or the one before that). Because I had no idea that George was going to stop my ability to download my old installer files.

If he'd sent an email saying that it was going to happen, then I would have been even more careful. If I missed the info somehow, by skimming an email or something, then I'll put my hands up and say 'my fault'. But it seems to have happened to a couple of others as well.

I guess technically Devs don't have to offer a cloud service. But most of them do or at least allow you to get access to the latest version of the software you purchased.

Good customer service, no? I've purchased all of DSPs Synths. In return, now maybe I become a dissatisfied customer. I could flog all his synths and not support him in the future. And thread like this does'nt look particularly good. I'm just saying that it's a two way street. This would never happen from U-he.

George is reading this whole thread no doubt, but has not said anything in his post. So that's just frustrating more people including myself.

I have kept a backup of everything I purchase online that comes in a digital state. Warnings like this, and the way folks like Air Music handle their downloads, it is a good idea.

That having been said, I too received NO email about an update being available...I read it HERE first! :)
I normally have backups.. even for freeware ones. But I had a huge failure on my backup drive, and haven't download some things yet :( Discovery Pro included.

The release history of Discover Pro, based on KVR news ticker:

Jul'07: v1
Aug'07: v2
Dec'07: v3
Sep'09: v4
Feb'10: v5
Feb'13: v6

Did it move from v1 to v3 in less than half a year back in '07 :o

Hope those who bought v1 in July then still could access their files come December and v3

Usually yes, but in this case some updates have tended to be trivial and so I've not always bothered with them - I probably do have a backup of a version of 6 but not sure about the latest one. Besides this isn't really the point, George still shouldn't have taken the last versions down without even informing people there was a new version that replaced it, especially given it's a paid update - it just makes it seem like he's trying to leverage people into upgrading.
