I've used a Phase26 for a half a year or so now:

Pros:3x2 phono outs,great for routing,sending tracks out to hardware fx
etc.Really hot headphone output,great if you're deaf!.Decent sound
quality.Digital/phono ins.Feels solid for the price.

Cons:Installation...a nightmare under W2k,and a bit flakey on XP,plus the midi
drivers die if you are on a dual boot system and you boot into the other
OS.Get the latest drivers *before* you install the old ones that come in the
box as upgrading drivers is a nightmare,plus dont expect any tech
support!.Then you'll have to tune windows,ie turn off ACPI etc (unless you
like pops and crackles).Also if the app doesnt support direct monitoring you'll need an external mixer.

Despite that it does the job and becomes invisible which is better than my
SB Live which reminded me of its existence everytime i tried to record
guitar and only got hiss...

Although if i was looking now i'd look at something that used Firewire tech maybe...

Get the Edirol UA-1000. USB2 midi I/O, 4 mic pres with 48v, 10 ins/outs, plenty of bandwidth for multitracking 24/96 audio, and a rock solid driver that allows me to use 3 ms latency on most projects, and 6.5 ms for LARGE projects.

I had a terratec DMX, and they left a bad taste in my mouth with their drivers/support.

In case i sounded harsh on the Phase26(the poor mite);

I have used it live with no hitches,once you *do* have a stable driver install its cool,and the fact its powered via USB means one less wallwart to worry about,hurrah!

Checking the current prices 6 outs for £199 is good value too.
