But there was nothing I could do with it, except writing Basic. To load a program would take ages, 5 minutes, 10 minutes.

So I think the immediacy of the old computers back in the day in that regard, is a bit overrated.
ha! yeah, i remember playing games that loaded from a cassette player.
Yeah, the booting was as fast as a flash. But these cassettes were awful. When I got the 1541 floppy drive, that was a huge speed bump.

But the loading from floppies got even faster with those turbo cartridges you plugged on the back of the keyboard. Including cheat and hack features for games, plus a reset button, so you hadn't have to shut down the computer for a reboot.

Who remember them?

It took 31 seconds from pushing the start button on the PC until I had loaded Sawer in FL Studio 12, and could play with it.
excluding password entry, 15 seconds.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

About 15 seconds here. That does not include getting the kitteh off the computer and password.

I couldn't afford a disk drive for my c64 at the time, and I didn't have any of those cartridges.

But I knew well about them, as there were so many ads placed in mags I used to read back then, Commodore User must have had several every issue.

There was this company called Datel Electronics that sold EPROMMER kits for the c64 back them, so a user could actually make their own "cartridges" that would extend the c64. Would have loved to have one of those then and put MicroRhythm+ on it for instant load when turning on the c64.

15 seconds is amazing :o :tu:

To be able to start plonking away at the keys and record in such a short time, does a lot for the hands on experience

Even if it was hardware synth, I think that is pretty quick :hyper:

How fast are you?
Except that while you're still choosing a kick 2 hours later, I've made a song on my Analog 4, had a wank and am now eating crisps.

Well, well :hihi:

Speed isn't necessary the best in all regards, watch out for ejaculatio praecox :borg:

Restarting my audio workstation is such a minuscule percent of the actual time I spend using it, I'm not at all concerned about the seconds/minutes it takes to boot up.

The main system is usually always powered on, and I restart it something like four times a year or something. As it never crashes, I just keep the current project(s) open and continue the next day, the system immediately responsive. If I'm working on a big chunk of material, I might have the main project open for a week or two straight, for example.

~10 seconds after bios. SSD. Reduced load custom Win7 build using ntlite.

Today, it took me half hour to get up.

Yes but how much of that was spent in the 'bios'?

Worse, even when up and running, I still couldn't find my boot.

They're always in the last place you ilok

Roughly 25 seconds after pushing the power button I will have entered my password, launched Reaper and be ready to mess with a 29 track project that even contains some iLok plugins. Granted, Superior Drummer will take another few seconds to finish loading its 1.8GB of samples from my sample SSD, but I can live with that.

25 seconds... damn Clover bootloader is so much slower than Chimera was. *sigh* In the good old Chimera days, I was online and ranting on Facebook in about 18 seconds. Nowadays, I just go straight to Netflix because by the time Facebook opens, I'll have forgotten what I wanted to rant about.
