--Is there an app that would let me load up a msf or smf from the net or where ever and let me extract the drum parts (usually midi channel 10) from it?
I bought the new Beat Buddy, it's fantastic and I love it but it lets a person load up a midi drum file extracted from a msf etc...and I don't have a sequencer program but I do have an iPad.
Thanks..

Give an example of one of the files you want to convert.

As far as I know smf is just a standard midi file.

If you post a link to a sample file, I will check Pro MIDI. It works for me as my iPad MIDI file manager. I also use Progression so can check that too.

Or you could contact the devs of the few dedicated MIDI Apps.
I miss MindPrint. My TRIO needs a big brother.

From the BeatBuddy FAQ:
Q: What type of files can I load on the BeatBuddy?
A: The BeatBuddy uses standard General MIDI files for the beats [...]

Dunno what you get from the net, but usually midi files have the ".mid" file extension. I just checked the midi loop library that came shipped with your unit, it comes with .mid files. My guess is you can load any .mid file into it, but it's better to first process it with their own software and store it on the SD card.

--Thanks for the replies. I've asked on the Beat Buddy site and they say that first I need to extract the drum part from a midi song file via external software. I have a Roland Sound Canvas app and it lets me load song files into it and I can mute the parts but evidently can't export that change out of the Sound Canvas.
If I have to buy something external for the computer I guess I will but I'd only use it for extracting the drum parts out of midi files. Seems kind of wasteful.

People have posted thousands of general midi song files on the net some are in format 0 and some in 1, what I'm trying to do is find an app that divides up one of these songs into tracks with track 10 usually being the drums. I'm wanting to take those drums and export them to my computer where I would then put them into my Beat Buddy.
There are a lot of great drums on the BB but if I do this with individual songs the beats are song specific. So instead of trying to fit the song to the drums on the BB I can fit the drums to the song.

Thanks for this discussion

Looks like a cool toy

You threw me by asking about smf/msf files.

As far as getting drum tracks out of midi files you could use Music Studio.

Find a midi file on the net press open in and select Music Studio.

Delete all the non drum tracks

Save it. Export to midi then share by email or Dropbox

Rather naughtily I just downloaded the zip file of presets and loaded them into music studio. There's a LOT THERE
