Was just watching TV and there was that little live footage of a recent Bruce Springsteen concert where he yells Born in the USA into the microphone. His voice was so weak and failed him occasionally, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for him and similar artists who keep ruminating their ancient songs as if they were still young. Don't know if Springsteen for instance has financial problems or if he really thinks he is still good on stage. Frankly, if he were not a well-known artist from the past, would people go to a concert of his if he were a new artist and "sang" like that?
It might sound harsh, but I think he should consider retiring if he can afford to.
Which artists do you think should also retire?
Some artists retired, but came back later on, anyway.

Roling Stones should retire. They look like arse.
Slayer are getting a bit ridiculous too, with their grey beards and all that. But hey, respect for still rocking, and having so much energy in that age. Obviously they like what they're doing very much still, so they should go on, until they don't feel like doing it anymore. Money isn't a concern obviously.

Well, to pick out Springsteen is kind of misleading. There is bad footage of any artist to be had, and he is usually still pretty much at the top of his game - going by "recent" concerts and footage that I've seen. Oh yeah, he's cut down on the four to five hour shows, playing for a mere three hours at best. Kinda lame, actually.
The man is 66 years old, and I'd wager he's got more energy and drive than most members here.
I don't think any artist "should" retire, actually. There's surely enough room on this earth for everyone, and if people still want to hear somebody, why the hell should he/she step down? Who am I to tell them to? Let them perform until they drop dead on stage.

Bob Dylan is a very good exemple. Most people who loved him in the sixties hardly recognise his voice and his song the way he sings now. I followed his career with highs and downs, and I love his last albums, I just love him like he is now.

He can reinvent himself, do like Garth Brooks and come up with a Chris Gaines alias

Right now, with my health the way it is, it can get dicey. But we still can do stuff...

I don't like his music one bit...fluffy_little_something wrote: It might sound harsh, but I think he should consider retiring if he can afford to. .
But why should he consider retiring? Because he wasn't quite as powerful as he used to be or because of a few whingers.
If he selling tickets, and he and his fans are enjoying it. Why shouldn't he keep on going?
Maybe he feels sorry for us lot, a bunch of 'no marks' on a forum, who's music will never get any significant recognition whatsoever.

Should we include artists we think should retire from posting here on kvr? Does that qualify as "perform?"fluffy_little_something wrote:Which artists do you think should also retire?
