How much RAM do you use

And did you upgrade your system during the last year?
Obviously a user got several computers, this question relates to the one you use most for music/studio/DAW stuff
I added the main doublings as alternatives, in case of systems with RAM that falls inbetween it would be best to vote as follows I think
2 (to 3)
4 (to 7)
8 (to 15)
16 (to 31)
32 (to 63)
etc

i tend to use no more than 4gb of ram resources for music applications. but had to upgrade to 16gb due to photo editing tasks.

4GB. No. I'm concentrating on better production and arranging etc. It would be nice to have more RAM but in reality, I don't need it.

32GB in laptop, use the machine for DAW and gaming. I have games (massive turn based strategy games) that will use more than 16gb of ram so it's been useful there as well as for sample libraries. Wish I had 64 but laptop will only take 32. Nice to have the 6820hk processor too, running all cores at a modest 3.8ghz continuous, could go faster (been over 4ghz) but no need to generate the extra heat and noise yet. Much better than the stock 2.7. Combine that with dual ssd drives, large 7200 drive, 4k monitor, 8gig 980m, external 980ti, and thunderbolt 3 and I can't really complain other than there are no thunderbolt 3 audio interfaces.

Also possibilities are:thecontrolcentre wrote:I didn't vote coz there's no 24gb option.
1+1 2+2 = 6
2+2 4+4 = 12
Etc

Ableton 32-bit can allocate 3 GB on its own on Windows, though I used to hit that limit when rendering tracks with multisampled intruments at higher sampling rate than 44100 - which is bad application design IMO

I use 26 Gb out of my 32Gb so I voted 16 Gb, if that makes sense.

4 GB is more than enough for me, because i don't use samples and sampled instruments, only synths or such hybrids like truepiano. For me the CPU matters, and mine is strong.

My hardware has 12 GB, but my OS only uses up to 4GB, just like Windows XP back in the day. I have never received an out of memory error on any 4GB system. From what I've read, XP automatically limited application RAM to 2GB so a lot of software developers respected that limit.
I do use some samples for percussion, but my entire percussion library is only 65 MB. I couldn't hear any difference between 24-bit and 16-bit drum samples, so I converted all of them to 16-bit to save space. Most drum samples are only a few seconds long anyhow. For most all other sounds I use VST instruments and effects.
I do some image editing too, but one of the first steps I make is to convert the images to less than or equal to the maximum screen resolution size and no bigger. So even for image editing I don't need much RAM either.

I recycled a laptop the other day, and pulled out a 128MB RAM brick
