Who is making the most quiet hard-drives now a days.

seagate?

the quietest i heard so far were seagate drives (almost no noise at all).

That'd what I've been hearing.

I read that the Samsung has a slightly lower seek noise.

i haven't tested any samsung drives myself , but i doubt it can be much better than how the seagates were .
anyone able to make a comparison ?

I'm using hard drive enclosures from quietpc.com and I'm very happy with them. You'll never get quiet drives from any manufacturer without these kind of products products

I read a lengthy and in-depth MaximumPC article on quiet computing a few months back. They claim the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 series of hard drives are the quietest due to liquid bearings or something. I don't have any experience with them though.

Seagate still occupy the top 5 slots in the storagereview database (where they use a meter not some tartrazine addict's lugs to determine noise levels)
