if you want insight, Jon Ronson interviewed the shaggs a few years ago, and others relating to their story, in his radio documentary series.

interview starts about 2 or 3 minutes in.

I actually like this track but I can say that because my ears have adjusted to Zombie-chan's voice.

Sadly it's not on YT anymore so have a stupid not-embedded link to some other site.

I lost my shit at 2:21, when they went into the chorus trainwreck-style, they missed their mark on so many levels, it's fractally bad.
I know right. She seems undaunted. But why not re-record that? I wonder if this was done in a studio setting that was costing money? Seems likely.

BTW: Fantastic phrase "fractally bad", I'm going to use that.
I always feel a bit mean for finding humour in these kinds of videos, because often the people in them seem nice and just a bit mislead.
That's part of the question though. Are they being misled, and by whom? What purpose does recording the video serve for the performer? Clearly in this case there was some anger and perhaps related desire for closure behind the video.

It also strikes me that recording bad performances is a much better way to make money from youtube than trying to record good performances. The thing is though, I think that you have to either actually be that bad, or, you have to be a very good actor.
This is an old one, but some might have missed it the first time round:

Jan Terry is interesting. Is she delusional?

I got no clue why, sounds like regular rock'n'roll racket to my ears

Sounds like the band that influenced Monster Magnet (before they headed in a commercial direction)

Janis Joplin, that voice is like fingernails on a blackboard :( :scared:

I am a fan too! Shaggs are simply genius, pawned the way for Ramones and what followed.

Absolutely, that's kind of the point of the thread. Let's explore people's opinions about what is good and what is bad and ask people to think about their music judgements with respect to their own music.

It's pretty easy to choose stuff that's really good and say "this is way better than me." But if we ramp down until we get to those things that we think are at the bottom then perhaps we have to be a bit careful before we claim our own music is better? At the very least, we might have to point to specific things. We also have to address why something that is bad might be viewed as good by others and vice versa.

Post videos of bad music, intentional or not, say something about them. Some people will just try to post the funniest stuff, some people will post some insightful commentary, it's all ok.
I like the Dudley Moore Trio and Acid Techno, and hate Coldplay & Radiohead.... im not sure im qualified to give an opinion... my music sounds good to me (if it didnt i would stop)

Thanks for that, it's fantastic. I was also reading an article about them which gave some similar insight, I thought that I linked it.

Here is is:

However, the audio interview is a must listen. I love the opening comment about riding the edge of good and bad.

Right? Is there an earlier example of "proto-punk?" Compelling as the album is, it's arguably objectively bad in any number of different ways. I love the quoted review in the first post, it's spot on.

Can it be genius when is unintentional?

Haha. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this..

My father tried so hard to get me into her music, but it just never happened. It couldn't happen.
She has heart though.

Edit: "had' (RIP)

I found that immediately compelling. However, could anyone perform that? Or does it help to be a somewhat attractive, if a bit unpolished, young Japanese girl hinting at taking your clothes off in a video? Maybe I should have listened to it without the video.

It's also hard to say much about the content of the song beyond music unless you speak Japanese, which I don't.

Could you be sure, how much unintentional it was? Was punk fully intentional? To quote Steve Jones, 'fooking Beatle chords, I couldn't play, them even, if I wanted to'.

Are you into Japanoise at all? Merzbow, Hanatarash? Merzbow was coming to play a show in Florida where i was staying at the time - 3 days after I left for Japan. Talk about strange bad luck.

Anyway, i think Japanoise is appropriate for this thread as it is disliked by many, and considered music by some, art by others. -
