Hi,

I have downloaded the 2.0 demo and Im really impressed with the sound! Good presets which show the great synth it is!

It sounds much better to me than the 1.x demo version that I tried previously.

But I have some questions about it:

1º. How many presets are included with the final version?

2º. How is supossed to be used the Library? I see many categories, but I dont see anything inside when I click in it. Its not already associated with the presets?

3º. What are the demo limitations?

4º. I can assign the velocity to control the 6 user slides?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

The final version can use all the presets available for download at http://bigtick.pastnotecut.org
Currently that's 11 banks of 64 presets, with more coming.
Daniel Maurer (the sound design wizard behind most presets in the demo) also sells a few banks at a very cheap price

No, the library is for every user to customize - you should drag / drop your presets into whatever categories you like in the library, this makes it possible to quickly access hundreds of different presets.
What are the demo limitations?
- Automation is disabled
- you can't save your presets through the vst host (but you can export them as text files and load them back with the full version)
- you can't move presets into the library.
- you can't load the other banks available for download on my site

I can assign the velocity to control the 6 user slides?
Err, No, these sliders are for automation control - typically you'll use them to automate various parameters at once, this has been used extensively by Daniel in his Morpheus bank (where the sliders are used to morph between different sounds)

For velocity control you have plenty of other options, check the curves available under the "velocity/aftertouch" label in the oscillators and filters pages.

Thanks for your answer.

Im yet experimenting with the synth to see if it fit my needs .

About the velocity control, I see there plenty of curves to control some parameters, and I dont know if its the demo or what, but I cant seem to be able to control easily the cutoff and other parameters of the filter with velocity curves, even I have problems to change the filter type (it refusses to change.

In fact I dont see many patches where the velocity acts very much controlling the sound (maybe it only happen in the demo version)

In my opinion the option to control the user slides with the velocity will be a good option in order to be able to create a rich expression control.

In other aspect I like very much the adition of samples, has they can add many colours to the palette, but I think there are very few included, are there plans to add more? A large set of samples like the included in some hardware workstation will enhance very much the Rhino sound palette.

There are about 40 Mb of samples already in Rhino - and about 130 different waveforms to choose from, not taking into account the countless ones you can generate using the single-cycle additive editor :-)

As for velocity control, here are a few presets in the demo where its use should be obvious :
Stage 88
Digital Windchimes
Reapers and Vampires
Wavesequenced Pad 03
Bump in the night
Wineglass 2
... and many, many others

To change the filter type, use the "filter mode" dropdown on the filter page
To control cutoff with velocity, use the "cutoff level" curve in the velocity/aftertouch window, on the same page.

There will be new releases of waveforms and patches from myself and 'Tick (and Tim C. was talking about doing more) very soon. Rhino's growing library is a strong selling point for many users.

If you're not getting good response from velocity try changing the velocity curve on your controller and make sure that it's not being filtered out by your host. AT is also used so check that it's transmitting as well. I recommend that MIDI controller assignments be made to the User Sliders, also. Click MIDI learn, move the top left User Slider with your mouse and then move the MW on your controller. Assign the other sliders the same way and turn the learn function off when finished. This will greatly enhance your ability for expressive playing.

Learning the Rhino can be intimidating at first, but you will reap many rewards!

Many thanks for your interest and support Tick and Daniel.

Daniel I need to say that Im very pleased with your patches in the demo version, with a sound in general very original and special, and more important to me, they are very expressive with an extensive implementation of control in the slides.

Its great to ear that the waveform library will be increased with the time. Has I have said I think is a great adition to increase a lot the sound palette.

I have tried already your sugestions about the velocity control, but the filter seems to not respond very much. I have a cutoff curve in the velocity/at window, but no matter how hard I hit the key I cant hear how the filter open. Probably the problem is my lack of knowledge with the program. I will keep trying.

Thanks another time.
