That's how it is, though. Those are some groundbreaking algorithms, you can't get that kind of sound quality for low CPU. It doesn't work that way.

Well, that's what the UVI and IRCAM developers say, I am only transporting the information to this thread.c_voltage wrote:I would not saySampleconstruct wrote:IRCAM engines are already highly optimized

Yes, ofcourse i understand, but nonetheless there is controversial moments, such as the m.grain behavior I described, it is likely that may be neutralized, this confidence is in the nature of the cpu usage. With linear (constant) cpu usage i think hardly would make sense to complain. Speech only about a sharp transitions. After all, there are modes (settings) of Granular\M.Granular osc's which almost no different from the problematic configurations by ear, but which in the same time show Very small cpu usage in my PC no matter how weak it.EvilDragon wrote:That's how it is, though. For example - Size knob value (in Grain section) - set amount about 100, or other Pitch Corection mode ("Grain Size" instead default "Period") - these simple actions almost completely neutralized peaks for me, at the same time not significantly alter the sound. Then, again, depending on the octave - in the middle notes even if not changing mentioned settings i will no have any spikes.
I.e. I want to say that probably has something to improve.
Oh, then of course difficult to argue that either.Sampleconstruct wrote:Well, that's what the UVI and IRCAM developers say, I am only transporting the information to this thread.

Do you have other software running? Virus scanners? Whatever? They all take up resources.
There is a problem with Ircam and Windows, and they are working on that one. But this does not mean the Ircam set are not as optimised as possible. Ircam does have a reputation to defend.

That's simply wrong, setting grain size correction to size extremely alters the sound in the higher octaves because the higher notes you play the shorter the grains become, which sounds bad on fluid/pad-like sounds and is usable for more percussive/perforated textures. Setting it to period increases the density (meaning how often a new grain is created) which increases CPU.c_voltage wrote:

Well yes, here probably i written incorrectly (about this examples), perhaps it was not necessary. But other first part of my post it is good.Sampleconstruct wrote:That's simply wrong, setting grain size correction to size extremely alters the sound in the higher octaves because the higher notes you play the shorter the grains become, which sounds bad on fluid/pad-like sounds and is usable for more percussive/perforated textures. This fixed it for me, Simon!Sampleconstruct wrote:Ok guys, I have found the problem, the factory patch for Granular Ebow is simply wrong, I was testing my initial preset which I sent to UVI and did not load the preset from the factory bank. The problem is, that the layer is set to 2 unison voices, which is the reason for the CPU spikes. Falcon (and Mach Five) don't like being run with several unison voices in granular mode, especially not the new multi-granular engine, so the voices get doubled and the CPU spikes. Please set the layer to 1 unison voice and all will be good.
And it's actually not the same as using like e.g. 6 grain streams in the multi-granular engine, CPU gets even more than doubled by using 2 unison voices. Problem solved, I'm glad I checked again.
Thanks for looking into it again

Would be nice if there was a piano roll. Anybody?

Falcon is not a DAW, it doesn't need a piano roll.

Well, I don't mean a full out DAW, but some way to draw MIDI notes would be a huge time saver. I hate using Falcon in a DAW and prefer to do everything in standalone mode. You can load MIDI into the MIDI player, but it would be nice to kick back with my laptop, draw some notes in a small editor and press play.

Whatever they add or not, we must have an espresso machine inside Falcon, now, like in subito!

Sometimes I just like to kick back with my laptop and a cup'o'Joe. No MIDI keyboard. Just me and the box. So, it would be great if there was a way to launch event processors without having to rely on live MIDI or .mid files. In Reaktor, there are many sequencer ensembles that offer note editors so you can just press play and go to work. I have a MIDI keyboard. I just like to get the hell away from it every now and thenc_voltage wrote:(Iy seems this is similar situation what i told i.e. requested about poly-hold for arp.)
