There are some good reverbs to choose but you can get some wonderful sounds from being creative e.g putting other plugs after the reverb like pitch shifter, chorus etc.

You really should do product demos for the companies, that demo alone almost sold me to Blackhole. Problem is, when i bought it, i'd probably not get such nice results anyway...

Thank you, I have enough to do with my own product demos really , I do these demos anyway while experimenting with new or re-discovered plugins, many devs around the world are acknowledging that which has several positive aspects for me too

My conclusion is, BOTH are awesome, uniquely different and don't really over-lap.

I've been super disciplined about NOT buying new stuff and when I saw this I thought, this might break my streak of not buying stuff that's on sale. I use inauthentic reverbs a lot for noise/ambient/experimental stuff.

Ok, so first, props to Eventide, a 30 day demo, and unrelated, Ultrachannel is now 64 bit.

Ok, that aside, taking advantage of that 30 day demo, I loaded up BlackHole(BH) and played with it and Reaktor's SpaceMaster 2(SM2) side by side. First, of course, there are several obvious differences in the reverb itself. The pre-delay on BH is up to two seconds, only 0.2 seconds on SM2, the filter on SM2 does not have the nice resonance nor a feedback control. It also doesn't have the decay control that gives you negative settings.

Except for the last feature, the rest are relatively easy to add to SM2 and I suspect it wouldn't be that hard to get the negative settings to give you reverse verb, although, that's not just as simple as changing a knob setting and a delay memory size.

SM2 does not have the performance features either, although, it is really quite stable when changing parameters and Reaktor has parameter morphing built in. Also SM2 doesn't have tempo sync, but again, that's not that hard to add either.

On the flip side, as is SM2 is more flexible. I think it might be great if I swapped out the filters for newer ZDF filters from the blocks library.

I thought that it was possible that I would be blown away by the reverb itself. I really wasn't. BH sounds good for the effects that it does, but so does SM2. I looked online for any comparison between the two but didn't really find any.

I have a few days left on my demo and before the sale runs out.

Am I missing something really important? Is there some setting that really shows that SM2 is very much an inferior reverb to BH. Obviously natural isn't really a word one uses here, but, perhaps authentic in a sense?

Obviously I'm looking for opinions, but bonus if you've tried both and double bonus if you can be specific about how to reveal important differences.

Well, I still may buy BlackHole, but, just gonna say, adding an X10 control to the pre-delay time (to preserve existing patches) and feedback makes SpaceMaster that much more fun.

Just demo'd Eventide's Ultra Reverb a bit, and even if it sounds a bit fanboyish, but, just, wow. First time my mouth stood open literally about such a wall of sound. Perfect for ambient music. Sounds very spacy, lush, dark, but at the same time clear, pristine, and just gorgeous. I already like Blackhole much, and this is more sweetness.

Btw, what does this upgrade option on the Eventide page mean?

B2 is my main reverb for most ambience and big reverb. But I like Blackhole and Ultra Reverb as well for a darker reverb. Blackhole is fast to work with and I enjoy the pedal style, easy interface, the ribbon and freeze.

Any of the valhalla reverbs can get ridiculous huge especially if you pop a couple in series. Also almost any cheapo or free verb can get crazy big with some eq and compression added on the return and possibly some delay or mixing and matching verbs. The compression is key to getting a big long sound out of an otherwise meh reverb with the EQ to take out some of the ringing and metallic or otherwise crappy artifacts of cheaper reverbs. If you are on a budget, tell me what free reverbs you have and I can make you a big crazy reverb setup with that. If you aren't on a budget I would go with Valhalla over pretty much anything else on the market.
