Pure nostalgy to me. Haven't participated in a Reason thread since I went all hardware + Auria on iPad. Really miss the haters, the fights, the insults, the mod warnings and even the suspensions. Brings tears to my eyes. Have a nice trip, guys. I envy you.

It's funny, but even on dedicated Reason forums, literally every 2nd thread is about lack of VST support, how great hardware is, or how RE's lack in comparison with VST plugins. Slowly beging to think that Reason users suffer from a massive inferiority complex... really, if i wanted VST, tended to use hardware, and found that RE's lack, then i would do anything else, but not use Reason anymore.

Not to forget the seemingly popular "Hey guys, i stopped using Reason. Bye forever!" topics...

Btw, i have a feeling that we actually will see VST support in near future in Reason... i don't know if it's really representative for the whole of the Reason community, but i see so many grief-stricken Reason users in forums these days, that i doubt that they will be able to get on with things without given those lost souls what they grieve over. Irrelevant if Reason will become just another VST host among hundreds of others then, and lacks features which other players who have been in the VST business for years have since decades. It's really sad, because obviously, people were able to make music with Reason 2.5, and that had a feature set which in some regards was even less than what Reason Essentials has nowadays, and i didn't see that amount of complaints really. There's that guy on Reasontalk who frequently creates topics like "When will Reason really sound pro", where he laments over Reason not being pro enough for him, even though he produces music with it, and people need to build him up, and tell him that his stuff is really good, and in the end he asks why he even created the thread, and feels like deleting it again. I can only repeat what BMoore posted here once, "The problem with Reason is not the software, it's the userbase", or something like that. :D Nah, really, it's sad how such a unique software more and more goes down the swanny, not because of the company behind it, but because of its users. The recent versions of Reason are (for me) non-operatable feature beasts, which only to some degree have something to do with what the software once was, with compromises like RE's, because people can't live without VST's.

Someone posted this on the Reason forum, it's spot on for the development of Reason:

 How true. It will never end it seems. I don't use Reason all the time, but when I do, I love it for what it is. It's a pretty damn cool piece of music production software. People should take it for what it is or go soak their head. I'm especially fond of the goodbye forever threads. What the hell is with those guys? Sheesh.

Exactly! Don't get it really.

And to be totally clear, for those who might misconstrue my statement, my comments are geared more towards the VST support thing. Some users do have valid gripes about certain things that have not been addressed in updates. So for them I do understand their frustrations.

Rack Extensions now seem to be priced lower than VST/AU

RG VST: $99 http://www.robpapen.com/rg.html
RE RE: $65 https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/rgre-instrument/

i will give props this, if all you buy are their rig bundles on discount its a hell of a deal. They just updated all their rigs today to V2. The only one I pay attention to is the synthrig where they added antidote, predator, mercury arp, rob papen quad, and 2 SB effects. For 79$ thats a hell of an upgrade.

Its also a great warning, basically never buy anything from them unless its on super duper discount and only then even if you really want it, since chances are it will end up in a bundle. I would have jumped on the upgrade had I not gotten predator and mercury during their last big sale. So now Ill just wait for a discount on the upgrade price, since predator currently serves the majority of my needs I would use antidote for, even though it is highly praised

Personally I'm pleased with 4mer. It's got great osc, filter and envelope sections. If it sounds harsh so does Serum (not bust on Serum, can't wait to afford it)

Where reason is lacking other software is strong and vice versa. I've been using ableton live lite with harsh digital nose to make new sounds for nnxt. I don't think I've come across a producer/musician I enjoy that hasn't relied on some nonstandard process to get a sound that fits the song. Heck, I tried the trick Noisia was showing in a video... Plastic taped over subwoofer port and record the playback, perfect sound for my library. Initially lack of vst seemed like a big deal but going out of the box has proved make that argument invalid for me.

Wait for RE sales. Or when you've got time dl the trials, make a ton of sounds and sample them, save presets and the day you can afford it you're ahead of the curve.

I apologize as I may be off topic, didn't read all 19 pages.

I really like 4MER too. Though IMO the filter more or less sucks and elvenopes are annoyig :D But that waveshaping thingy is kickass \,,/,

I find 4MER awful because of it's heavy aliasing. It has 4X oversampling on by default, but even then the aliasing is quite bad. At 2X it's terrible, I'd say marginally worse than Subtractor. If anything, Serum sounds crisp - but it does not alias like something is broken. 4MER does.

Imho there's a big difference between a synth like i.e. JPS Harmonic Synthesizer where the aliasing is part of the sound/character of the synth (and actually very well implemented), and 4MER which just sounds "wrong".

Well did it?

Can you sell on your RE's if you no longer want them? I heard somewhere you can't :( That's gash.
