The crying shame is that it was a Mac-only app, IMHO. :x

KeyMap was cool, but it offers a lesson in how difficult this really is. In the demos, it sliced and diced and did the kinds of things Guy is talking about. But in reality, the slicing feature was very dicey (ha!) and a sample would often contain two notes. (Yes, I understand threshold settings, but there were still occasional errors.) Worse, these are errors you wouldn't even know were there unless you double checked the waveforms.

Even with perfectly edited samples, they often got mapped to the wrong notes or velocities. Autodetecting pitch is surprisingly tricky. Note that even Melodyne often guesses wrong on pitches.

If even one pitch or velocity is detected incorrectly, it causes a domino effect of other errors in the mapping process. I eventually realized that I was spending more time making corrections than had I just been more efficient with my editing and labeling and dropped in the samples manually.

That's not to say KeyMap was useless. I do still use it for looping, which is far superior to any other auto-looping software I know of. (Although that ain't perfect either, and I still have to correct a fair number of bad loops.) And in fairness, I've edited and labeled so many samples that I have a system down now which largely negates the need for auto-mapping. So for many people, a slick auto-mapper could be fairly useful, *if* they're willing to go through a manual double-check and correction process.

However, if I were NI, I wouldn't touch this. If Andrea Gozzi couldn't make it perfect, then I doubt the NI guys can either. So NI's "reward" for offering a new automapping feature would be a flood of complaints about the errors. (KeyMap users were mostly pros who understood the challenges of writing software and appreciated a tool that could help, even if it wasn't perfect. They're not the complaining type.)

It's extinguished now (better said, dumbed down and stripped to like 5% of its original functionality, then thrown into Mainstage), thanks to Apple. :/
The Apple manifesto: to search the world of plugs, buy them up, not in order to develop them further, but to dumb'em down :P

I feel like kontakt 6 could be revealed at Musikmesse and be out in september.
Hope NI will jump in the VST3 wagon this time!

Won't be revealed at Messe, it's not in beta even, yet. No changes regarding VST3 yet.

you only carry bad news, don't you? :hihi:

Whoa, still not in Beta, eh?

Beginning to wonder if Komplete could be released with a voucher to upgrade Kontakt to 6 on release. Feels like Kontakt 6 is still a way off, while K11 is overdue.

Maybe an Absynth 6, K11 release with a "voucher to upgrade Kontakt to 6 on release."
That would be great!
How about an Absynth 6 and Massive 2 release with a "voucher to upgrade Kontakt to 6 on release"
It would be a wonderful world!

That won't happen, I'm pretty sure.

There's sort of a precedent though, isn't there? They've released Komplete before now without all the products on the disks, you go into your account and grab 'em when they're done.

Any which way, all wild speculation. Komplete is extremely unlikely before May given the current sale I'd say. Kontakt feels like it might be some considerable way beyond that, but who knows.

Hi man, maybe you know if there is a chance that Kontakt 6 will still support Win7 64bit OS?

Thanks!

Of course it will just like the whole K11.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

I'm running the alphas on W7 without issues at all. So I'd say yes, it will support W7.

Still Alphas, eh? Looks like K11 is still some way off, then.
