Yes I suspect you're right.

Everyone knows how it sounds. I'm looking forward to see how it's operated. There seems to be a lot of multi-function controls and FM patches are complex, so... :scared:

Indeed.

I still maintain it's a while off yet. No stores (that I can find anyway) have pre-order info up.
Also Sound on Sound have said something similar in the latest edition.
So I was right. ETA May apparantly.

could order one from japan if you're really keen ? i'm assuming availability is imminent in japan, or maybe they're just putting up the product page quite early ?

if its release is imminent in japan i hope the new customers take to youtube with demos to whet my appetite until may.

korg will surely sell tonnes of these.

parameter list:

according to peter kirn, he was informed by tats that volca-fm's can transfer their entire system state from one unit to another (i.e 'clone') via one of the mini-jacks, using the same protocol the volca-sample uses for a sample dump. that's probably stated on the official korg page too, albiet in japanese, since they seemed to have included a pic of such a transfer on the page.

handy, if like me you're considering two.

Looks like we have only AD controls for every operator. Which might not be bad after all, but it's not suitable for complex FX patches.

I don't quite see controls for ratio and modulation amount. Operator +- might do one of these, but then how do we access 6 OPs?

I already have a Yamaha DX21, but I'm tempted by this Volca FM just to be able to program my own tweaks live. I have the Volca Keys and it's easy and fun! The sound of the Volca FM seems rougher than my DX21, which is god for me (it's not the exact same thing as the FM synths of the '80). The Volca FM seems to have more of an edge.

Supposedly you can actually edit everything, but you do it by scrolling through countless edit pages on that tiny display to find the parameter you want to edit. I suspect an iPad editor will be the way to go...
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

I'm curious about this too... I imagine its limited to one operator at a time, but I'd also like to know how much real time manipulation can be done with ratio/modulation amount if any.
