Dude, this is excellent! I have a droning patch set up right now that sounds very similar to the ambient bed in the back ground. I love the harmonies. Thanks!

I am so horrible about this stuff....

The mic and preamp I am not sure about, as Charles did it all on his own. I think he has been using an Oktava MK219 lately, but again, I am not sure.

The effects chain is archived with the rest of the project files, so I am not sure about that either. But I am a cheap bastard, and almost all of my vocal tracks use various combinations of IIEQ Pro, CLAS, and Vanilla Compressor. Occasionally I will try out an instance of Voxengo's Marquis, but the interface is really counter-intuitive for me, so it doesn't get used very often.

In any case, they key to making these vocals work was editing the tracks down to the very bone. There were 4 unison tracks and 2 harmony tracks, and they were so compressed that every last breath and cough became an explosion if it wasn't edited out. It took about 4 or 5 hours to do all of the editing/trimming.

Very good indeed. I thought the intro (before the drums entered the fray) had a large, spacious sound, both on the monitors and through the cans.

I am glad you like it, sir. I am flattered by your praise. The spaciousness is mostly due to Ariesverb, which is still my go-to reverb for large, natural sounding spaces.

Just as a counter to some thoughts here, I love the drums. In fact, while I really like the ambient loops, especially the propeller drone, I think that the treatment of the vocals and the shift in mood really elevate the airplane song to something special. The ending is as stunning as the break.

Seriously, I seldom want to hear music cafe tracks again but The Airplane Song is a definite exception to that.

I was going to comment in the other thread you started because I started listening in reverse order thinking that bet better stuff would be at the end.

Anyway, really great job on that. I'd like to hear it in the context of an album.

Ah, that's what you get for thinking there was any order to that chaos.

The production values on those songs are quite uneven, and they were made over a period of over 20 years. I think that all of the songs are worthy on some level, and I am putting them up on the Sordid Business blog one at a time, hoping to get some feedback from people, so that we can focus on re-doing the ones that people want to hear.

There are very many more that are in various states of completion, but all of which need to be finished, and mixed, and converted, and tagged, and uploaded, and posted, and.....

Anyway, really great job on that. I'd like to hear it in the context of an album.

I apologize for the 'one long song' form that it comes in, but the individual songs are segued into each other in a way that sounds broken if the player inserts gaps between songs, and far too many players do that by default.
