Reason is explicitly the last product that should have been hit with the ugly stick (or steamroller) of flat UI redesign. Are they going to undo the whole rack concept next?

And I see the fad terms being thrown around: "clean", "fresh air". The problem with minimalism is that it looks "new" and "fresh" when surrounded by the opposite, but that sheen is lost when everyone else is doing it too.

Look up the brutalist architectural style some time. And other strong design fads. The more a fad stands out from moderation, the worse and more dated it feels once people get over it.

There's going to be a huge wave of resurfacing to undo all the current wave of resurfacing once the fad ends. It'll end once some influential or popular designer/product goes back to fine details and skeuomorphism in the era of ugly flat minimalism. It'll be regarded as "fresh", "new", and other meme-like adjectives, because it'll stand out among the sameness that will have become universal and dull.

Thus the great pendulum continues to swing...

Hmmm...Wasn't aware that the terms "clean" and "fresh air" had been dubbed "fad words" on the internet . If I had known, however, I would've still used them because that's exactly what I meant.

Don't get him stirred up, he went on a complete rampage on the alchemy/logic thread about flat clean UI's. I don't think he likes them very much

In his defense though, what he's saying is right on the money, but I did catch a taste of the high levels of bile he used in the making of that post.

I can see where he comes from up to a point. My issue is that with my visual impairments I have to be a little more to the 'clean' 'fresh air' side than not. Reason 9 could use a bit of a 'cleaning up' but leave the back panel idea.

I do think age, as well, plays into this to a point. Some of us are getting to the stage of needing bifocals as well. Floaters, all kinds of issues are going to influence interfacing here. Let us face it. Interaction with graphic interfaces is the point here.

If the GUI becomes too cluttered up is that really going to help your experience?

i don't have people to talk to in the real world about stuff like music tools, GUI design, photography, etc... Gotta use the web where there's at least a possibility of finding people who comprehend and give a damn. Upside to the social internet is finding people like-minded enough to at least converse

I think my mother has macular degeneration, so that means I'm 50% more likely to deal with it.

I think Reason 9 will be launched with a hardware controller keyboard, to make a software/hardware hybrid ala NI's NKS keyboard and AKAI Advance keyboard

My guess is that this will not happen as Nektar Panorama fits like a glove (as good as Maschine or Push) to Reason, and Props have spent time and money to make sure it works together perfectly.

They will not change their formula. All I can see is tightening the code. They have stated many times that there will be no VST support.

They could do with an interface rework, but many love it the way it is. Rewire could also use some servicing to catch it up to date (though it works fine as is). Hard call on what might happen...

If I'm going back to Reason I want this stuff, but I doubt Propellerhead is watching. I think they are too busy trying to be the next soundcloud..

- Spectrum analyzer per Channel on the SSL Mixer with the option to see them all on the master channel.
- Multi-band device so you can build your own proper multi-band processors.
- Oscilloscope Module
- Stereoscope for the SSL Mixer
- Integrated Loudness metering with different types.
- Tape Saturation and Tube modelling on the SSL (Similar to what Mixbus has)
- Programmable CV module (Lets you choose a bunch of CV functions and parameters)
- Chord Memory tool
- Expanded Matrix Sequencer with different play modes (Forward, backwards, Ping-pong, Random) & CV input to let you modulate the levels of each step for the curve mode and play mode.

Of course I'm only dreaming.. In the mean time I'll stick to Bitwig and use the following replacements.

- For the Improved NN-XT I am quite happy using NI Kontakt which is years ahead it's not even funny.
- Instead of the Bitcrusher effect I get to use a meticulously modelled DAC inside a sampler with TAL-Sampler. It woudl be nice to have an FX version of Tal-sampler in the future. I also have Plogue Chipcrusher and Sonic Charge Permut8 and Cyclone.
- Instead of the improved filters, I get to use arguably the best modelled filter in plugin existence Cytomic The Drop.
- I also don't really need any new synthesizer since I own some of the best ones by U-he, Fxpansion, NI, etc
- For a wavetable synthesizer I own Serum which lets me load in any waveform I want
- I still don't have a good spectrum analyzer, but I will soon be buying one that works flawlessly in Bitwig.
- For a multi-band module I'll be buying Blue-cat MB-7 and it will let me load my VST effects into it..
- No need for a OScilloscope since Bitwig has a decent one.
- I have a decent set of metering options built into Bitwig so far which is good enough for me.
- Since i own U-he Satin, Harrison Mixbus, Presswerk, Trash2, Ohmicide I am well covered for saturation and distortion, although I might pick up Fabfilter Saturn and Fxpansion Maul at some point just to get a few more algorithms.
- I don't really need a programmable CV system once Bitwig opens up the modular part as I'll be able to create my own CV based modules and devices..
- I'll be picking up Xfer Cthulu for a Chord tool so won't really need this either.

So really when it boils down to everything I don't honestly need reason. It's a sinking ship.. and I was glad I abandoned it along ago.

What would you like to see in Reason 9?
