Good Omens by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman
Yeah, I know, it's being done. Good for me
... If it ever gets finished. Terry Gilliams kick ass too.

An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

Too many big wordsSARcazm wrote:and any of Iain Bank's Culture books which are fascinating, tho at times a hard read (but what do you expect from a Scot)
I am a huge fan of Banks' SF work - but the one I think would make the best movie is a non Culture work - "Against a Dark Background"
I also agree with a few of you who think Rendezvous with Rama would make a good movie. It would be quite a challenge to bring the epic scale of Rama itself to the screen.
Finally, Ian Ainslie has nailed a cracker. Alfred Bester's book (although I know it as "Tiger Tiger") is a true classic of SF (and also Iain Banks favourite SF novel

Anything from Cordwainer Smith..
I would die happy for a movie based "The game of Rat & Dragon", "A Planet named Shayol", or "The crime & Glory of Commander Suzdal"
If you haven't read any of Cordwainer's work, you owe it to yourself.

now i'd pay to see that!aMUSEd wrote:Blood Music by Greg Bear would make a superb film if not done by the usual Hollywood idiot.
I'd like to see a few films remade true-to-the-book: a nice retro-victorian 'War of the Worlds' could look great with todays CGI. 'Roadside Picnic' (Stalker), I, Robot (don't remember the car chases in the book...
'The Stainless Steel Rat' series could be worth a shot (though could be horrible too...)
Something else that could be good would be a channel/vehicle for short sci-fi stories. I think all the stories that have stayed with me have been from compendiums, magazines (Interscope was (is?) great) etc. Maybe they'll be a 'home publishing' revolution in film making like there's been with music making, fans putting their interpretations on the web for all to see.
Could be cool.

the works of Dan Simmons
but it'd be so difficult to transpose the depth of the books - it might be a blasphem

"The Fifth Elephant" by Terry Pratchett.
No, seriously, I like most of the casting for "Hitch-Hiker's guide", especially Bill Nighy as Slartibartfast and Martin Freeman (genius casting!) as Arthur Dent. This should be good.

Apparently Neuromancer has been a no-go since 2002. Seems to have been scrapped. Hopefully someone else will pick it up - Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive too, maybe?deastman wrote:Yeah, whats the hold up with Neuromancer?!?![]()
This is too bad... ! Then again, some of the concepts might not translate to the screen very well. Ditto for most of Stephenson's work. But it would have been cool anyway! (As would The Diamond Age...)Snow Crash would be nice too, but I attended a Neal Stephenson book signing last year where that question was posed, and he said it'll never happen.
