Right, before we start I know they can be automated in various DAWs, I'm using Reaper and parameters can be modulated with lfo, sound and other vst parameters. I know about modifying them by drawing envelopes etc. I know as well that not all VST's can have them automated.

So...

Does anyone know of software like another VST (ideally) that could do more to automatically modify the parameters in other ways? :tu:

Direct 'value' automation (as opposed to MIDI automation) of a plugin parameter is only exposed to the plugin host. Other plugins cannot do this on their own; there's no such thing as plugin-to-plugin communication in the VST standard, only plugin-to-host/host-to-plugin.

Some hosts which are also plugins, like MUX and Bidule will let you do this inside your main host, but only because they are hosts themselves.

I love this Forum, it never ceases to amaze me how helpful people are, and how direct the answers are. Seriously, thanks and I didn't realise other VST's couldn't update others. I can see now how Reaper does it as it's a host. I'm liking look of this cableguys software, mux too.

Thanks

I'm sort of getting somewhere with midishaper, but it's so difficult to get my head around. I'm using Reaper and the tutorials on the web don't match my setup. They refer to midirearoute which isn't on my installation (brand new), and am getting lost with the routing. I can get it to modulate a control, but it doesn't match the one I'm trying to control.

Baffled!

Just posted a little how-to on the Reaper forum for someone asking how to use Midishaper.

Just the basics there. You can do loads with Midishaper that way.

You're lucky, I cant even get it to route anything! I realize the video instructions are old but they dont even make sense.

I'm the same guy, so thanks to mace404 I now have it working. I have the latest Reaper 5.16 I think it is, or something like that. The VST did support midi control and it's working great.

Then in your instrument click the knob you want to modulate,go to the param button at the top right and click parameter modulation.

Check "link from midi or fx parameter" and press the button (none) below that.
Choose midi > cc > 20.

Now the knob starts to move and you can tweak as desired. ".
This is what Mace wrote so I hope it helps
