Recently purchased a Roland TB-3 for my set up, but am unable to figure out how to get the sounds from the TB-3 into Cubase Pro 8.5. Windows and Cubase both recognize it just fine. The TB-3 is seen as a MIDI device, similar to my S61. Its connected via USB and MIDI (though Roland Tech Support said to only use USB?). So right now, its connected only via USB. I can't get the TB-3 sounds in Cubase. I load it into Cubase as a MIDI track with Input and Output set to TB-3. It will transmit MIDI based on whatever pattern is selected on the TB-3, but no sound. That is where I am lost? They said I was suppose to also open an Audio track and route the Audio track source to the TB-3? I guess I am just sure about how it should be connected and how to add it into Cubase to get the acid sounds and automation. Any help on this would be awesome.

Current set up:
Computer: Win 7 PC
DAW: Cubase Pro 8.5 and Pro Tools 12
Main MIDI Controller: Komplete Kontrol S61

go to device settings and make sure you are using the TB-3 audio driver... It has to have an ASIO driver. If not, you'll need something like ASIO4All to set it up.

@ SJ_Digriz thanks for the reply. I know it is set up as an audio driver, but not sure about the ASIO part? I use a Lexicon Lambda as my main audio interface and I do have the ASIO4ALL driver on my computer when NOT running things through my audio interface. Sorry, I left that part out in the set up.

Do you have an audio cable connection the TB3 to your Lexicon?

The way that the Roland Aira products do audio over USB is stupid on the PC so it's best to take audio from the audio outputs instead.

Like tehlord said, it' better just to go with the audio outs to your regular sound card. But, in Cubase you have to go select the audio driver in the Devices setup area for it to even have a shot at working.

@ tehlord - not yet. I haven't done that yet as I wanted to use the MIDI data from the TB-3 (including the automation from the knobs) but it seems I won't be able to do that. Thanks for the input on the Aira line. Makes me wonder about future purchases such as the System 1 synth.

@ SJ_Digriz - It is selected, well as the Lexicon since its my main audio device when using Cubase. Do you mean switch it over to the TB-3? Seem moot to do that since its better to just use it as an instrument and recording directly audio?

If I connect up the MIDI from my S61, will the TB-3 get the MIDI clock info that way even if I record from the audio outputs?

Yes, you have to switch it over. Since it isn't selected, audio is not passing. Cubase is listening to the Lexicon when you have it selected. Since you aren't sending any audio to it, you don't hear anything. You can configure ASIO4All to combine both the Lexicon and the TB-3 audio driver. Otherwise you have to switch back and forth. And, if you switch to the TB-3 you won't be able to monitor the output unless you set it up like the Lexicon.

The USB midi will work Ok, it's the audio over USB that they messed up (compared to Elektron and Access for example)

You should be able to send midi clock down the USB cable. It's under Transport/Project Sychronisation Setup and you should find the TB3 listed there under midi clock destinations.

Dang, I had no idea you could combine with ASIO4ALL...I'll have to mess with that setting later to see if I can get it to work (at work right now, working hard obviously

I forgot to ask if the TB-3 has a VSTi plugin. If it does, and they wrote it correctly, it could pass audio on an instrument track.

Not that I know of. ALL the videos I've referred to have only ever indicated that its a stand alone bassline instrument/sequence. Even Roland's website does not have anything along the lines - though I think they should.
