Push 2 - how usable is it outside of Ableton?

It's tax/GAS season, and I've been GAS'ing for a Push 2 ever since I got back into Live 9. Before I pull the trigger, I just wondered if anybody could give me some insight on how good it is as a general MIDI/drum pad controller in other DAWs, or to create custom layouts for other drum plugins. I get that it's a dedicated Live controller, but I just want to know if it's decent for, say, creating a custom drum 6x8 drum pad layout for Battery 4 that I could use in Sonar? I recently bought a Livid Base 2 primarily for this purpose and secondarily for controlling Live, but I'm not happy with the way it handles either job, and the pads are just way too stiff. So, if Push 2 could cover that ground, it would probably make some decisions for me.

If anything, this is a good sign of things to come

There is full support for Bitwig Studio, see https://github.com/git-moss/Push4Bitwig/wiki

I'd definitely buy a Push 2 if it would work in Studio One, with scales etc..

Thanks for the input, guys! This is particularly useful for my needs:
Also, for anybody interested in buying one, I just bought it from Guitar Center and they knocked $150 off the price for St. Patty's Day. Apparently, this price is only good online or by calling them directly, but I was able to choose pickup at my local GC, instead of shipping.
Having the MIDI spec handy will allow me to configure my user settings pretty easily.V0RT3X wrote:If anything, this is a good sign of things to come

Personally I wouldn't get one to use it out of Live, you are paying for a lot of stuff you won't be able to use.

I'm getting it primarily to use with Live. I just wanted to know if it will serve other purposes, particularly as a basic drum pad controller for Battery 4 for the reasons stated above (e.g., not happy with the Livid Base 2).rod_zero wrote:Personally I wouldn't get one to use it out of Live, you are paying for a lot of stuff you won't be able to use.

In that case yeah, I use it with melodics, although it is the software which handles the mapping.cryophonik wrote:I'm getting it primarily to use with Live. Interesting. I had to Google Melodics to see what it is/does, but it's good to know that it works well with it.rod_zero wrote:In that case yeah, I use it with melodics, although it is the software which handles the mapping.cryophonik wrote:I'm getting it primarily to use with Live. I've actually never bothered trying Push 2 outside of Live, but I do have Sonar and Battery on the same system. I'll give it a try over the weekend.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.
