I'm 56 years old, going on 45 years of guitar playing and this question is is impossible to answer. Inspiration does not work in this manner at all for me and tbh if it did it's likely I would have quit 44 years ago. If 5 songs were to inspire me each in turn could lead to 5 or 10 or even more that that inspire me creating a plethora of songs inspiring me. I believe that would be called discovery, to limit that to 5 would be kind of silly and to suggest any particular song had more influence than any other might be biased in a place I prefer bias to left out of the equation.

For instance perhaps said bias might take me down an easy path I already know well, if I allow discovery to choose it's own path I might find myself taking on challenges I never thought of. While taking a more familiar path may be easier and seem to be more fun it could leave me stagnating and stuck in a rut. I prefer growth and a lot more than 5 songs have provided growth, including songs I do not care for at all and songs of my own (which often I do not care for at all :hihi: )

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Genesis - Supper's Ready
Mike Oldfield - Amarok
Tom Waits - Kentucky Avenue
Sigur Ros - Glósóli
Pixies - Debaser

Genesis inspire me to create complex stuff that retains its heart and soul. Mike Oldfield reminds me to constantly seek that childlike sense of wonder. Tom Waits inspires me to not be afraid of giving those heart strings a good pluck. Sigur Ros taught me to seek beauty in everything. Pixies inspire me to let that inner maniac off the leash now and again.
