The new Rise 49 is 1649.00 canadian or 1200.00 USD which is pretty steep for a midi controller. Then again i don't think anything else exists quite like it.

Sure, there are others like the Seaboard: Haken Continuum, Linnstrument, Madrona Soundplane, and soon the Keith McMillen K-Board Pro 4. They are all comparably priced, or even higher.

So, the latest update of Equator (1.7.2) and Dashboard (3.1.5) seems now finally to work like it should. I also can now trigger midi to Equator in Logic without connecting to the Rise without a problem. Great so far. Finally i can start to create a bunch of patches

I still have unstable bluetooth connections sometimes (Macbook Pro and iPhone 6S plus) where it just hangs and loosing connection. Mostly i use the usb cable but when connecting to iPhone i just use bluetooth. Have to test it a bit more.
In general i´m very happy with the update.... thank´s Roli!

I finally got my Seaboard RISE 49 and spent a good while playing with it today. It will definitely take quite a bit of practice to get comfortable playing on the waves. I still think that the piano layout helps, but the experience is utterly different from playing a traditional keyboard. I find myself struggling to find the right positions for my fingers when I play chords, but I suppose that will come with time.

I did notice that it lost the connection between Seaboard and computer a number of times, and I had to power the keyboard off and on again to reconnect. This was with a hardwired USB connection to my Windows 10 laptop. I'm not too happy with that.

Equator sounds pretty good. I didn't even touch a single control on the synth yet, because I was so focused on just playing the Seaboard. One gripe I had was that the vast majority of presets are drenched in delay and reverb. I don't suppose that is different than a lot of other synths, but I would have appreciated a few more dry-ish sounds.

Overall, I find it very inspiring and a lot of fun. This really is the expressive interface which I've always found particularly lacking in traditional keyboards. I'm looking forward to spending a lot more time with it and hopefully developing at least a little bit of proficiency!

Are other people having the hardwired connection issues on Windows?

At the moment, I'm deciding whether I want a Rise or need a Rise, but if I keep hearing about issues with them, I may skip it until they get the bugs worked out.

I've found mine to be quite reliable. I'm having more DAW issues than anything. Only Cubase and Bitwig work really well with the Roli, and I've been having issues learning to use Bitwig and Roli together. Cubase works OK, but I'm trying to get away from the USB dongle.

If you've played other expressive instruments (guitar, windows, brass, etc), you will likely enjoy the Roli. If you are an experienced keyboard player, it might feel awkward, at least at first.

I think the Roli firmware and software is solid, and they have responded to all my questions in a timely manner. I like my Rise 49 enough that I also bought a Rise 25.

I checked out some of Roli's site and looked at the FAQs, so I'm learning a little more how this works.

Does aftertouch work in single-channel mode?

Yes, but only on one note at a time. The slide motion (up and down on the keys) send CC74 so you will want to map that to whatever you want to modulate. I expected it to send CC1. Any patches that use Modwheel will need to be remapped to use CC74 instead, unless you have software that can rewrite the CC on the fly.

It does come bundled with the 8 track version of Bitwig, so you can always use that if your other DAW didn't fully support it. I've only recently bought the full Bitwig studio and haven't completely learned my way around it yet, but this will probably push me to do so. I think Sonar fully supports multi channel recording, but editing the results probably isn't much fun. And I also have Live, but that isn't supported in any realistic way... Hopefully everyone gets on board with MPE soon.

Oh, one more comment- my instant reaction upon touching the Seaboard waves for the first time was that it felt like I was fondling some alien lifeform!
