I haven't yet checked it out but I came across this post.

Bottom line : developer died and someone in the thread mentioned above suggested to do an OSC in memory of him. Which I think is a nice idea.
OH man that's sad :( :( That and HG Fortune :(

Animehaus told me about the synth a while back. That's a great idea to explore rgh. Can anyone else chime in on the performance of it? I'll check it out ASAP

Having an OSC Challenge in memory of Oliver would be a great idea bj. So would an HG Fortune memorial. Overdue, but better late than never.

Brainstormer has been stable for me so far. No issues to report. Will spend more time with it today. Push it to the limit and see how it holds up.

:( sad news indeed - RIP Oliver and condolences to his family.

I had this synth in my plugins folder since early last year. Its very stable and sounds great (though i only tinkered with it so far). Reminds me of Charlatan a bit
Version .87 has no patch saving functionality, and saving/loading using the DAWs options can only handle patches and not banks.

I have now downloaded and tried out the .89.1 testing version which has a new patch management system, a factory bank and demonstration bank.

I had some major problems trying to install these banks, no matter where I put them the plugin insisted there were no compatible patches in the folders. This also caused me several major crashes when i tried the menu option in the synth to rescan or change the location of the folders. Reading the forum i see that others also have had similar problems, and the cause of the problem had not yet been resolved.

I kept at it though, and finally this worked for me - what i had been doing was unzipping these folders straight into the location where I wanted them (C:\Apps\BrainstormerBanks), when i tried unzipping them FIRST in my downloads folder then copying to their final location the plugin recognises them! I have no idea why this should be so (something about the way windows treats unzipped files??!) but it worked for me.

So now I've tried creating a couple of patches - kicks, pads etc. The synth is still stable, sounds great, and is efficient with CPU (so far). One niggle is after saving a patch i have to rescan the folders for the synth to see it.

I would love an OSC using this synth. I think it would be good to use the latest build for it, as this may produce some feedback which could help Storm Mastering in bringing this synth up to version 1. It already feels very close to finished.

Just found this nice free and open source synth called Synister:

http://the-synister.github.io/

PC and MAC, seems like an ideal synth for an OSC ;)

Was testing it out yesterday. Interesting synth, moderate / high CPU usage.

Anyone else try this out?

Yes, tried it with my WinXP/32. But had no luck. Does not show up in Reaper. The standalone EXE comes with an error (something like "no valid 32bit application"). And Savihost does also not work. Interessting thing is, that I have to define a separat folder for 64bit during installation. But after installation, nothing is inside there. So maybe the only installed dll-file is the 64bit and the 32 is missing?
I aksed this in the instrument forum in the original OP too.

Got an answer from Mahal, the dev: Hmm - sounds like WinXP is not supported... Sorry for that :(
Bad news fo all the XP-users

Incredible how winXP has stood up to the test of time. What are the advantages of running it? I used to run XP up until 2011, but switched to windows 7, as it seemed like WindowsXP++ - very smooth, fast, no crashing, etc. windows Vista was an absolute mess

Took this for a spin couple of hours last night.

Works well enough on windows 7 in cubase 32 and 64 bit, though cpu hungry. Seems to be more efficient in 64bit, using about half the cpu in 64 than in 32.
Managed 15 instances in 32 bit using factory patches without cpu glitches - though almost to the max at this. Freezing tracks should help for any more.
The interface is easy to understand and to get around, automation works well, though the sound seems a bit raw and fuzzy you can get some interesting modulations with the LFOs and envelopes.
When first loaded it was playing out of tune - about one and half semitones off, found i could fix this by tuning the main freq knob to compensate. I found the reason for this was my sample rate for the sound card was set to 48000, changing this to 44100 fixed the problem.

RE Win XP - this could be just an installer issue (though i've not tried it) I have known other software to have similar problems, where the solution was to install on a later system and then copy the dll files to the xp installation.

I allready tried this. I installed Synister on my Win8/64 office PC and copied the dll to my my old music PC. No improvement.

Honestly, laziness and anxiousness to change a running system. Normally I have no problem with WinXP/32. It runs extremly stable. But I see more and more software comming up, which needs 64 bit and/or Win7 or later. So I know the time comes nearer, where I have to leave my XP/32.

It's actually illegal in the United States to run Windows XP...

Well i still run xp on one of my computers, and it'll take an army to get in my cabin and take it away from me. I got 15 shotguns, and an assortment of knives. My kevlar armor is wrapped in the American flag, and my fridge is fully stocked with beer. My pickup truck runs on windows xp.

WinXP? What is it?

Jokes apart, IMO it's the most stable version of Windows. Win 7 came with shitload of graphic stuff but stability was good. I have moved on to 8 and currently 10. All good from DAW perspective (at least for me).

Is it really illegal to run Windows XP in USA? I know MS sunset the support but didn't know it's illegal.

How are the boot times on 10?
