cool, they pretty much f**ked up the TV Film.

Ashton Kutcher or Jake Gyllenhaal would play a great Harrison.

Its fantasy genre but,
'The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever’ would make an excellent series of films

more PK Dick by all means
even when it's done badly it's still great

when Paycheck came out there was a rash of articles about why so many movies based on his works (Total Recall, Bladerunner, Minority Report, etc.) and about other 'properties' that had the rights sold and had been passed around but never been made

One of th eye-popping facts from these articles was how little PK Dick got initially for writing some of these stories -- something like $300 for the 'Paycheck' story.

Among the movies whose rights had been sold for considerably more already 'The Man in the High Castle' and 'The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritrch' was another. Even as badly rendered as 'Total Recall', the 3 stigmata would be a hell of a movie. Everybody I know who has read that book felt themeselves slip into the dark, ambiguous paranoid world that PK Dick not just invented, but lived in. Great book. My guess is it's just difficult climate to get a movie made that's so centered on 'recreational' drug use. Either that or the idea of Buddhists controlling the UN scares people even more than Palmer Eldritch.

'Through a Scanner Darkly' would also make a great dark movie. Nice Saturday matinee double feature paired with 'Requiem for a Dream'

It'll never happen in a jillion years, but: Howard Waldrop's collection of short stories, "Night of the Cooters." No two alike -- each story is a bizarre and unique jewel.

People, if you've never read Howard Waldrop, as is the case apparently with most readers: RUN, do not walk, to your nearest library or used book store! Once you've marvelled at this giant of wit and imagination, you'll wonder what imbecile let his books go out of print. (grar!)

IMO, nobody but Waldrop could -- or would -- write a story about the political rise of the ghosts of Communist leaders. Or the time Martians decided to invade not Grover Mills, New Jersey, but Texas (they really shouldn'ta messed with Texas). Or... never mind, go find his books! You'll be soooo happy you did.

Frank Herbert:
God Emperor of Dune (would love to see this one done), Heretics of Dune, Chapterhouse: Dune

also I think Children of Dune miniseries didnt quite cover the whole range and ideas of the books, that could have been a lot better, incoherent to those that read the original books

Philip K Dick -

Flow My Tears the Policeman Said

A Scanner Darkly - (supposedly Richard Linklater is doing a rotoscoped version ala Waking Life)

Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch

Man in the High Castle (though the subject of alternative history has been done before this is a great book)
Ubik - definitely could be adapted
almost any PKD short story - theyve made so many good if not great films we all know and love using them as a basis - Minority Report, Blade Runner, Paycheck, Total Recall, Screamers, Imposter.

Oryx and Crake - Margaret Atwood

god there's so many lol, real sci fi geek here

Someone mentioned Iain M Banks, didn't they - and his alter ego Iain Banks has stacks of stuff that could be filmed. The adaptation of "The Crow Road" was good for TV, but they really need to do "Dead Air", fantastic story. And that one about the cult which I keep wanting to call "Wilt" but which isn't.

Looking forward to seeing it :D
But I said 'not done stupid'. Wait until you see it, then you'll see what I mean.

Read the old Harlan Ellison screenplay, a perfect example of how it could have been done not stupid.

i was just talking about this with my dad in the pub the other night.

he'd seen (or heard) something somewhere that this might be in the works and he thought it might have been a mini series it was referring to.

I can't find anything on Google tho so he might have just imaged it.

superb books.

cheers,

I'd like to see some of the Discworld novels done as live-action movies. Unfortunately, they may never get made.

or fortunately, as Terry Pratchett apparently has first refusal on any script he would find stupid. Word is that Warner Brothers has the rights to do Mort, but they want to do something stupid like change the entire plot - the last time, a producer said "Terry, I love you, but we've just gotta get rid of that Death angle"...

I saw the Soul Music mini-series on PBS a few years ago - bad animation, but good plot and voice work. And the soundtrack - which included songs by The Band With Rocks In as mentioned in the novel - smoked! I'd LOVE to get my hands on the accompanying soundtrack CD, I know it exists....

Borderline sci-fi/fantasy but the Chronicles of Amber would be really cool..
