Melda are having a 50% off sale on this at the moment - bringing it down to 25 Euro. I've been in the market for a gate/stutter for awhile so this has got me keenly interested.

Anyone compare it with other similar gate/stutter plugins like Gross Beat?

Post

I've yet to find anything else even in the same league as Livecut.

If ONLY it was 64 bit. Can't get it to work anymore alas. :-(

it's basically a clone of Gross Beat and at half price, probably the best bang for your buck. Stutter Edit is still the reigning chopper imo.

They don't really compare. Stutter Edit is way more complex. MRhythmizer is good for what it does, though. If you-you-you-ou-ou-ou-re-re-r-r-r just loo-loooooo-looking-king-kinnnnng for something fairly simple and fun, 25€ can't be beat. You can usually pick up SE used around here for about 80 bucks, so why not demo it and see if the price difference is worth it to you?

MMultibandRhythmizer is where it's at ;) You could use it in 1 band mode to make the MRhythmizer version. I also have Grossbeat. I have never tried Stutter Edit.
Play it by ear

you should only consider the melda stuff if you already own some. as some user say, the learning curve is a long way to go. the ui is also a mess.

i own stutter edit and never had the desire to buy similar plugins :tu:

Thanks everyone. I'm hearing yas, re: Stutter Edit. It has been calling my name for some time now and I do not have an aversion to iZotope products :)

My main use will be to trigger the gate sequences via midi so I can just use them to add rhythmic interest to fills/synths. Looks like Melda can work in this way too (midi triggering).

I would love to get into one of these newer plugs - it would be way more convenient!!

But I just can't. I kinda agree Stutter Edit is the best of the rest and it does have some great features. But Livecut just sounds better and does more interesting things,at least in the realm of chopping.

I never seem to like the results I get out of Stutter Edit. The Finger for Reaktor always gives me more usable results, for what its worth...

I find MRhythmizer harder to work with than Gross Beat for the most part... but using an envelope follower to control the wet/dry on MRhythmizer can be big fun :D

Won't work with j bridge? Going to try the Mac AU with 32 lives tonight
Since I updated OSX I can't get anything 32 bit to work.

Had it working with the bridge previously.

Although I love Melda plugins myself, I have to agree with frizzbee - if you don't like the UI, it'll be hard to work with them.

Stutter Edit is quite a monster and is most probably the most feature rich solution, but since MogwaiBoy mentioned gate sequences, maybe a smaller solution like MRhythmizer or Illformed Glitch 2 would suffice. Always depends on what feature set he needs now / later on. I'd recommend to demo them and take the decision before the next round of "Eternal Madness" :)

I am working with Cubase internal FX and d-blue Glitch 1 (32bit, but free) so far, and I am happy with the results, though of course a tool like Stutter Edit would come in handy for sure.

MRythymizer is the most flexible of those choices when it comes to manipulation of things in the time domain, and then it gets even more badass with the multiband version. Stutter edit has some neat stuff regarding the filters and other effects it has. Gross beat is a bit less flexible than the others. It doesn't really offer anything that can't be done with the other two. Having both stutter edit and MRythymizer doesn't make for a huge amount of overlap as they do things in pretty different ways.
