+12 thousand for cumbia. Not exactly new, but definitely fresh and worth mentioning. There's some really interesting stuff going on in the digital varieties (plural!).
And related to cumbia, Andes step.

Hmm. It's interesting. I was wondering what's been going on down there. Looks like you're kinda screwed if you can't rock a flute or a charango though (or sample worth a damn).

An idiot on Set Theory:

It's a fusion of country and rap, it has another name too.

I don't know if it's a genre (or care) but the recent trend towards using live jamming with modular synths is really cool - seems like a fusion of electronic music with free jazz. Particularly loving anything by Erika
http://interdimensionaltransmissions.com/artists/erika
also Bana Haffar, both who I found out about through Moog
https://soundcloud.com/banahaffarmusic
and Sarah Davichi who seems more Eliane Radique influenced musically
https://soundcloud.com/sarahdavachi
No idea what 'genre' these are really but who cares?

It's no new genres, but it feels like there has come a new wave of Dubtechno and Tech House the recent years, and with new waves you often have some new character to the music coming with it.

They have movement and energy, I work with dancers who dance to this stuff.acYm wrote:

According to this website, there may be hundreds of new genres just waiting to be explored. Everynoise shows 1300 music genres in a scatterplot (similar ones close together, different ones far apart) with music samples and artists, so just find two you like with little in common (eg death metal and operatic pop) and start decomposing!

might go ahead and make a solipsynthm track, just so I can say I make solipsynthm. "Hey baby, have you ever grooved to the sounds of solipsynthm?" no, seriously, clever name.
tbh I'm a bit of a hater when it comes to this list. I don't know wtf that was that they labeled progressive house, but prog house is an actual dance music genre that sounds good, not fistpump festival trash, no matter what beatport or spotify says about that.
