I don't know why you don't think HALion Sonic would be good. It has a huge library, is very configurable and easy to use, combines both synth and sample content, and has a number of unique synth "modules" for different specific kinds of sounds. Hardly any third parties make content for it though. If you get it, you're mostly stuck with what it comes with (but it comes with a LOT of sounds, and it's far more than any workstation synth I've ever seen).
How many presets does it have, exactly? "a LOT" tells me nothing.

UltimateOutsider wrote: Omnisphere also mixes samples with synthesis, with a huge library of layered, complex sounds. I prefer HALion in terms of usability, but a handful of third parties are making Omnisphere content, so there are probably more sonic options available here.

Xpand2 does have a nice soundset but nowhere near as big a library as HALion, not as configurable, and is a lot less fun to browse/search for sounds.
Xpand2 has 2,500 presets. How many does HALion have?

I'd recommend Hypersonic2 to the OP, if he wants something with loads of bread and butter 'workstation' sounds, ultra-fast loading (99% of presets load instantly), and very easy to layer sounds (as in, as easy as physically possible to do).

Isn't Hypersonic unavailable for quite sometime (replaced by HALion Sonic)? Besides will it even work in modern OSes? If the ability to edit is a must, then HALion would be the right answer (all the library and capabilities of HALion Sonic as a ROMpler, but the ability to edit extensively and use your own sounds). The same coould be said of Falcon (has a good Bread'n Butter package in the workstation style called Plugsound Pro, and other very good packages. Besides iis one of the most powerful synths currently available (and a sampler too, of course).

Hypersonic2 isn't 'unavailable', you just can't buy it. So nobody loses anything if you somehow get it, if you get my drift. (Although apparently, using software that nobody now allows you to buy, and thus nobody can lose any sales from your downloading it from wherever you can find it, is the crime of the century...)
And yes, it does work on 'modern OSes' - LOL. I have Windows 8.1 and it works perfectly in FL Studio, VST Host, and worked fine in Windows 7 too. I presume it will run in Windows 10 too.
Hypersonic2 is very editable and has an outstanding General MIDI set too (which is about as 'bread and butter' as it gets). But we could just keep pretending it no longer exists and try to encourage people to keep buying, buying, buying stuff that they don't need...

This might sound crazy, but have you thought about a ROMpler? You can get decent used Roland ROMplers for about the same price as a plug in. Zero CPU usage and instant loading.

Can I ask why Hypersonic 2 is so revered? I know the 1st Halion sonic had a lukewarm reception, but I thought 2 was better?

No relation to Halionsonic really, same company, sound-alike name but the design team that made it went to work for AirMusicTech - XPand!2 is actually the real successor to Hypersonic except they took out the deep editing.

"sound-alike name" - HalionSonic came out after Hypersonic2...

Xpand!2 isn't the real successor to Hypersonic2 though, is it. If by 'Hypersonic' you mean 'Hypersonic 2', of course. Hypersonic had much less editing capability than Hypersonic 2. If Xpand!3 ever comes out, and has full editing, THAT will be (maybe) the successor to Hypersonic 2. And the editing ability presumably must exist, because I presume it isn't all sample based, but actually has a synth in there.

And to Iris. A, Hypersonic 2 isn't 'revered', I'm the only person who's brought it up in this thread.

I know. I was referring to Halionsonic.

XPand!2 is based on Hypersonic (inc 2) - it has the same design team and multi synthesis architecture, even many of the same effects, but they have clearly just opened up the full editing to the sound design team, which is a pity. I hope there is an XPand 3 that brings that back.

I thought about it ;-)
Hehe, I just sold my rompler last year, Yamaha EX5.
I loved it, but have to move on.

Hypersonic looks intresting indeed ! :) Gotta check youtube.
I now have purity. Not bad, but also outdated sounds.
Does Hypersonic have good B&B sounds?
I have a Korg M50, don't use it on stage (I have my Nord Stage2 and my PC with mainly Synth1 and purity and other plugins). But still I love that M50. Great soundscapes. Good b&b sounds. Bad design, bad keyboard dough...

Xpand2 is a great choice. If you want, you can add to it Arturia Analog Lab which has 5820 presets. I think it will be very useful for you:
https://www.arturia.com/products/analog ... /analoglab

I have all the Collection, so all the presets are fully editable in its original instrument, but there is still some editing. There is a demo you can try as well and the price is right IMO at $89.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Ah, intresting, that was another question of me, does Arturia Lab import other vst's?
