Ho hum - just another Wusik rant

Post

First the good news. I've been on the Wusik bandwagon since about
Wusikstation 3 but have never been entirely happy with it for one
reason or another. V7 managed to annoy me to the point that I decided
I'd had enough Wusik aggravation for one lifetime and would proceed
no further. However ...

Against my strong better judgment I succumbed to temptation and jumped
on the V8 group buy. Every still functional synapse I posses was
screaming "save yourself the grief, spend the money on beer instead"
but GAS got the better of me and I took the plunge.

Imagine my surprise! Wusic Station V8 has finally matured into a
truly great instrument and Wusik 8000 seems to be a fantastic
synth. Except for one small problem.

Which brings me to the bad. Neither will run in any of the 3 DAWs I
have on my WIN 8 lappy. Wusic 8000 is completely unusable in any of the
available configurations. Even Reaper, the most forgiving and stable
of DAWs, will not run it for more than a few minutes without
quitting. Load a preset, touch a knob, even look at it in the wrong
tone of voice and kaboom - Reaper dies a horrible death again.

Wusik Station V8 is better but not by much. While it will run more or
less, it is far too unstable and unreliable to be considered for
any serious use. Like V7, V6 and V5.

I have more synths and FXs than I can remember including lots of
freebies and obscure oddballs. These 2 are the only ones that have
given me any cheek at all. I can't remember the last time Reaper
crashed and in fact I don't think it ever has on this machine except
when trying to run a Wusik synth.

I have yet to try these synths on my main studio machine but if the past
is anything to go by I expect more of the same. No Wusic synth that
I've purchased has ever run really well on any machine I own.

I do apologize for the rant but my annoyance with Wusik goes back at
least 3 versions and I can't help feeling that I've been Wusiked again
and really should have known better. Hopefully other users are having
a better run with these great looking but unreliable instruments.

If you just wait, there'll be a group buy for Wusik X along in a minute. It'll slice, dice, and make fresh coffee and toast. We'll also be throwing in some thing we havent decided on yet, and change the name and spec twice. It'll not be a drum machine, except for ten minutes next Tuesday.

yep, you should.

the day I give a developer money up front for a plugin he hasn't developed yet (as seems to be the Wusik business model), is the day I give my next of kin power of attorney because I can not be trusted to manage my own affairs.

I don't even buy plugins without a demo, even if all things seem to indicate I will enjoy the plugin.

net result: I don't find myself starting threads like this and my musical journey is unimpeded.

I have been out of the Wusik loop for a while, and I thought it was odd/mean that nobody wanted to see his arduino drum machine. It sounds like WillK could benefit from a) focus/ignoring shiny objects and b) a business partner that can help him with point a) and public PR. The dude has an image problem.

Hello there, only saw this post now.

First, I apologize for the problems you had. On both my test machines both programs run rock solid for hours, really, not saying for saying, it just runs solid. But that doesn't mean I didn't leave any bugs behind, is just that the stuff that I can reproduce I can fix quickly.

Secondly, be nice guys, you have no idea what has happened to me in the past few years. I'm finally getting back at things and working hard to make great and solid products, but this is still just me trying to do the job of 10 people. And now, I can't hire more people or find a PR or business partner or whatever... is just how things are.

In any event, I'm working on a free update for both programs that will include TUN (Microtuning Scala) file support and will also fix some problems that I found. I will announce this soon on the company forum and start doing tests for the new files, Windows first, MAC later on.

I hope that I can fix the problems ASAP, but bear with me, ok?

And the haters, be nice, hate me all you want, but don't make this another war thread... Wusik 4000 was the biggest project I ever made, and several people said it was vaporware. Well, its done, its out there, my first truly cross-platform modern-coded project, that took me a lot of blood (really) to make... But heck, I won't fight every single comment here, as I just can't please everybody, is just impossible...

Best Regards, WilliamK

BTW: to the original poster, why didn't you test the full demonstration version? It doesn't time out, comes with tons of sounds to test... or you could have PM me or something. I know that support is lagging, but soon it will be better... sorry again.

Cheers, WilliamK

Well that's the standard 'blame the victim'... (customer).
Everything done falls into a regular pattern with that company that's not a company but a 'poor little' single developer that often refers to its self as 'we'.

I consider Wusik to be part of the KVR hazing ritual.

Was very happy to take a 70% loss on wusie and jump off that treadmill.

and I really don't give a damn either. we all have shit to deal with, but we all have to meet our responsibilities too - especially when it comes to money changing hands.

It also seems to happen in the same pattern of timing of each 'new' soon to vapored or abandoned product. I doubt very few of us are ever falling for that anymore William.

God... Poor you. Here, have some virtual grapes.

Sorry, but does'nt everyone have their own crap to deal with - Or are you special?

Personally, as a one man operation, I deliver on my promises and no, I'm nothing special.

I was all for giving you another chance back then but you're just too unreliable. You can only make the same excuse so many times. It's a shame because you're a really nice guy and a very talented coder but truth be told....you're a horrible businessman........

I have Wusikstation v7 and it runs fine on my multiple setups (with Windows XP and Windows 10).

It's sad to see that things are so unstable for Wusik as a business. Wish things would get better over time...

Indeed, again, tested on another machine, all rock solid. But this happens, programming is hard, and sometimes we do a little mistake that creates a problem that only happens on 1% of the computers that uses it.

The past few months we had a lot of new users using both products without problems, thanks to a free promo we did on Facebook.

As for my own personal shit, its my life, I just mentioned so some users would be a bit nicer to me, and it backfired, badly. BOOOOHHOOOOO for you f**kers too, geeeeshhh... Sorry for that, I know I'm being "nasty", but take this with a grain of salt, as I worked HARD on Wusik Station V8 and Wusik 4000 & 8000, just to see people call my baby UGLY.... :hihi:

Ok, now, serioulsy, sorry again if I have been so unstable, I won't discuss this again. My friends and family only knows what happened, and that's that. As for Wusik, well, I still get tons of new users every year, and I try to be good to them as often as I can. And I did try to be good to all old users when possible, but sadly I failed bad.

2015 WAS A GREAT YEAR!!!! Not sure why Teksonik is saying or implying otherwise. Wusik 4000 and 8000 was great. Some didn't like some of my moves, but it was all the I could do at that time. Is not easy to always think correctly in the eyes of everybody. ;-)

As for 2016, well, I'm working, trying, and hope I can continue making nicer products.

Ok, this is my LAST post here. If you want to keep on complaining, bitching and winning, feel free to, is a free country/world I guess....

Cheers, WilliamK

Based on previous posts from William, I'm pretty sure I can read between that lines and see what he has been dealing with. It also explains, at least to me, a lot of his business practices and decisions to date. I'll only say that I think he's a talented developer, and I hope he's able to turn things around.
