Cubase muted projects, my solution

On several of my projects in Cubase Artist 8, I've noticed the saved project files will (upon reloading) occasionally become completely silent. No tracks are muted, no busses muted, master out is not muted. Nothing solo'd either.

The projects will render an audible wav file. But I hear nothing from my monitors or headphones when attempting to playback these projects.

I thought it was a major bug with the software. Well, it is a bug, but I have a workaround:

1) Goto Devices>VST Connections (F4 key)
2) Select Left and Right Stereo out channels (under the 'Device port' column) and select 'Not Selected'
3) Reselect the Left and Right stereo out channels to their correct (previous) settings

voila. Sound comes back.

I've had similar in Cubase Pro 8.5. I'll try this workaround next time I come across it. I had it a lot after upgrading to Windows 10.

Yes, this issue started occurring for me in Windows 10 too. It seems Cubase loses the connection to the stereo output driver somehow and it needs to be reinitialized. Quite strange.

I thought the x.x.35 patch resolved it by trying out a silent project and seeing it now had sound again. But on subsequent loadings of said project, it was silent again. So I started hunting. I think, what really happened, is Cubase reinit'd the driver when it patched and that temp 'fixed' it.

Strange, but at least I found an easy work around! That is, until Steinberg fixes the bug for good.
