The Stars My Destination would be pretty good as well, didn't know anyone but me ever read it. :P

I know it as "Tiger, Tiger" and in the past 25-odd years I must have read it over fifty times....

I'd love to see this series in film. But it's too clever and too full of irony so it's bound to be f**ked up by Hollywood - they'd probably put Will Smith in the lead role for this too

What I would really like to see is some of Clifford Simak's fabulous novels in movie form - especially Way Station. I can't see it happening though - not enough action by today's standards - they just don't seem to have the vision to make thoughtful movies much these days (apart from maybe Peter Weir at times).

Tales of Pirx the Pilot by Stanislav Lem.

Not as depressing as SOLARIS. Collection of short stories, some are quite funny.

My fav is the one about an astronaut caught in multiple timewarps and gets into arguments with multiple copies of himself. :x :x :x :x

Great thread idea! :) My faves would be:

-- Marvin Kaye & Parke Godwin's "The Masters of Solitude"...a seemingly little-known masterpiece and possibility one of my all-time favorites

-- Brian Lumley's "Necroscope" series (ok, I know that kinda crosses over into a horror, but still...)

-- Larry Niven's "Ringworld" series (would make a great series of movies), and "A World Out of Time"

-- Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series (I'd love to see how this could be pulled off in the right set of hands)

-- William Gibson's "Neuromancer" (of course) and "All Tomorrow's Parties"...if done right and not trashed by Hollywood like "Johnny Mnemonic" was

-- Arthur C. Clarke's "Rendezvous with Rama" and "The Songs of Distant Earth"

-- Isaac Asimov's "Fantasic Voyage 2"...he did an excellent complete rewrite of the original premise

-- Frank Herbert's "The Dosadi Experiment"

-- I could imagine the Harlan Ellison short stories "The Deathbird" and "Adrift Just Off the Islets of Langerhans: Latitude 38° 54' N, Longitude 77° 00' 13" W" (well, maybe with a shorter title :D) expanded out into full-length movies (again, if done right and not trashed by Hollywood)
