A few questions about Studio One...

So i just downloaded the demo version and thought i would try it out but im having some difficulties and need some help.

First of, i find it extremely difficult in the arrangement view to select a clip, every time i click on a clip or 'cell' ive made or audio file ive dropped in it just splits it into two and im constantly having to undo stuff. Secondly in pretty much every DAW i have ever used like Ableton or Logic or Reason, i can move clips along the timeline, here in studio one i dont know how to do this i find it very hard to do simple things like this and also in other daws say you have a cell and you want to copy it and move it somewhere else, you simply select the clip hold down ctr or sometimes alt and then right click it and move it along, once again in studio one i cant seem to do this. These things im finding a bit annoying but obviously i just need to know how to do it, i can appreciate these questions are probably super simple but i would really appreciate the help. I am demoing this and Bitwig studio and in Bitwig everything just flowed for me, this is probably because i used Ableton for 10 years but still the basic commands and setting up even a basic drum beat was super easy and flowed nicely, in Studio one i couldnt even manage this, all i figured out was hitting D duplicates a clip to the next available slot but i want to be able to move these audio clips or midi clips myself.

you need to click on the lower part of the audio clip,i think its due to the new smart tool that it does split them

to move a clip just grab it in the lower part and move it to where you want it

and i take it, copying and pasting clips works the same, just hold ctrl and press the lower part?

yes it should also be noted this function only happens at a certain track height/zoom. If you have your tracks less zoomed, the typical click behavior from something like ableton is what will happen. Its only when your zoomed do you have to click on the lower parts of the region.

Also.. just click the region and press D to duplicate it if the region is time based if its not then just alt/cntrl drag (mac/pc)

Thanks for all the help, also another thing thats been bugging me. When i am playing my 8 bar loop and i want to start it again from the start, usually you just press space bar twice and it will start from the beginning of whatever the looped region is, at least in Ableton it does. Here it just pauses and continues playing from where you paused it. Is there any shortcut so it starts at the beginning of the loop or do you always have to manually click the start position on the timeline with your mouse and then press play?

Right click on the Stop button on the transport, then you should have some option on how you want Studio One to play, ie, you should tick something like "Return to the beginning after stop".

From there you can also make the loop markers follow your selection, and if you want the play head to go to the start of the selection, then click on the icon that is a the left of the scratchpad icon in the header
