what he said.GaryG wrote:If I had to choose then reluctantly the 80s. From talking heads 'remain in light', Laurie Andersons 'big science' etc through the blossoming of the post punk bands, Husker Du, Minutemen, early REM, big black, sonic youths best stuff, throwing muses....
Then nirvana came along and ruined everything...

The real innovators of many music genres appeared in the 1950s and had a big influence for a long time:
Rock (Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis);
Country (Hank Williams, George Jones);
Rockabilly (Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins);
Folk (Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Odetta);
Jazz (Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk);
Latin Rock (Richie Valens) and Caribbean music (Harry Belafonte);
The Nashville Sound, and Motown started then;
the electric guitar (Les Paul);
Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.

Well done, in this poll the majority will select whatever decade they were aged 15-25 years old:

The music I love the most was recorded when I was 5-10 years old, but as I didn't really start to listen to records before I was 12, I had to rewind to find the best bitsBertKoor wrote:the majority will select whatever decade they were aged 15-25 years old

Makes sense. The most memorable moments of my life happened between those ages. After about 25-27 things started to slow down a little once life started handing me more responsibility. Though, i was 15 in 2000, but voted "90's". Still very close though.BertKoor wrote:No, you're just a minorityMichael L wrote:That would make me 81 years oldBertKoor wrote:the majority will select whatever decade they were aged 15-25 years old

yeah, but fortunately I was able to overlook that.Ridan wrote:It kind of makes sense though. I mean, the 80's did have Depeche Mode.

You missed the 1950s which set the bar for awfulness with Pat Boone -- "See the USA in your Chevrolet" and everything else he sang. He was #2 for the 50s behind Elvis.Numanoid wrote:Every decade has a rogues gallery
