When I first go into this I was buying this and buying that, as much as I could.

Now, I got a lot of this and a lot of that and still can't make decent music

But at least I've run out of GAS :hihi:

I feel the same way, actually I've been trying to stream line the stuff I've accumulated over the years. I'm now much more picky about what I buy and in most cases I feel like I'm probably good and now I need to just focus on the music production.

If you can't make good sounding music with free vst's, you suck as an electronic musician

Amen. Now, if you don't mind, the adults want to have a talk here.

I'll let you make the "good" sounding music. I'm aiming a little higher.

yeah, always demo first

Post

some developers don't even offer demos. and some of those that don't, don't even explicitly offer a 'no questions asked money back guarantee' ... just vague promises that any problems found will be fixed.

i don't own/use their plugins. not the ones I couldn't demo first anyway.

Post

Now that I think about it. There really aren't that many devs who don't offer a demo.

Synths/samplers that come with samples i can understand, but right now i can't really think of one dev who doesn't offer that.

Actually, you can suck as an electronic musician regardless of whether the synths you use are free or paid for. It isn't the synths you use. It's what you can do with them and how interesting you can make the music that you do make with them.

I have every paid synth you could want, including some of the best sample libraries for orchestral music. I should be able to do anything. And yet, my first submission to Audio Jungle was rejected. Why? Because it didn't meet their standards. With all my thousands of dollars of VSTs, I couldn't get a track accepted by Audio Jungle.

So while I'm not going to argue with your statement that you should be able to make good music with free synths, because you should, you could also make good music with synths you've paid for IF you have some talent.

Talent is the key to the equation, not the amount of money you've paid or not paid for your equipment.

wolfgang palm and UVI, to name but two devs with products featured prominently on the front page of this sub-forum. think harder! although, in fairness ... wolfgang palm i think relented and allows a 7 day demo now of Phonem. and UVI will probably eventually allow a demo of Falcon. someday over the rainbow.

as for your 'synths samplers that come with samples' non-argument ... just don't package samples. or package demo samples.

I'm looking at the PPG Wavegenerator demo right now.

good for you.

someone really ought to create a 'comprehend before response' thread.

buying decisions. use freeware to see if you have any talent first. :tu:

Ha, exact same story here.
Well I have a lot of stuff that I almost never use, which I have bought for the most part just because it was on sale.
And some stuff I have bought because others praised it, or basically everybody praised it, plus there was lots of marketing hyperbole.
Still I don't use much of it, especially NI stuff, I just don't like the Reaktor System for example.

But there is also good stuff among that, e.g. Valhalla Room, it was recommended by a few guys and it has become one of my go to reverbs. Also the Waves stuff I bought because of the reputation, and I still use some of their plugs (though many have been replaced by Melda stuff).
