I'll start with mine between Cubase sx3 and Cubase 5. I dont really like Cubase 8. What were some if the things that you liked in the older versions?

Post

My favorite version of Cubase was the one that wasn't a bug-laden crashfest. I believe it was called Studio One.

Meh, a typical MS answer :hihi:

I liked 4 and had mostly good luck with it. 5 wasn't very good though and I sold it. I've kicked the tires a couple of times since but considering that I keep hearing unpleasant things about the forum, that people complain about crashing and features not working....I'll just pass and stick to my cassette tape :ud:

So considering the OP liked two versions I didn't, it's all moot right

I loved version 1.0 :D ..but that was also the first and last version of Cubase I ever used.
Win 10 -64bit, CPU i7-7700K, 32Gb, Focusrite 2i2, FL-studio 20, Studio One 4, Reason 10

Thanks for reminding me the good, old times when I enjoyed Steinberg Studio Case which included Cubase SE 1.
I liked the simplicity of that version as compared to previous one - Cubase VST. Even the package looked cool:

i stopped at 5 ( which stable on my machine).. i still use it now, for midi editing mainly.
a friend of mine still has his atari and there are features in there i still do not understand : )

6.5 which collecting dust here. :)

I was happy with 5, but got a nice deal on an upgrade so here I am at 8.

Post

8.5
Only crashes occasionally when exiting.

I've got 5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5 and 8, (just in case, you know, just in case), but never feel tempted to use them.

Heh, i remember those boxes!
I've only had vst3.x (then nuendo 1-2) and now 8.x.
For as much as i loved vst3.x, 8.5 is my fave so far.
I've never had any issues with crashing in any of them, beyond plugs that crash every other daw i've used, too.
It has its fair share of annoyances or things i'd prefer to be different, but they all do, and the capabilities on offer are pretty staggering.

Versions 4 through 6.5 were the ones where I felt that everything came together perfectly, I've never worked so effortlessly with a DAW as with those versions. I gave up with version 7, the features seemed amazing but the shift in workflow was too much for me to carry on.

With 5 (5.5) I wasn't x64 yet....which I feel was part of why I didn't like it.

One thing was the convolution they added which was well known for spiking the cpu at the time.

Guessing that wouldn't be an issue these days.
