Have to apologize for the horrid mix quality.
I do it every time. :(
The more I try to tailor the sounds the way I want, the more problems I create.
The more I try to correct those probs, the worse it gets.

I use EQ too hard.
That creates phase probs and distortion.
Then i`ll go back to that EQ later and try to correct for the phase probs I made earlier...making the sound worse.

Lots more involved in this mess, too much and too boring to go into.

Oh well, now that I`ve got you all pumped up...haha...have a listen.

All comments welcome...I deserve it.

PS: Credit to sonicat for providing me with a few midi files which I edited for this piece.

Thanks guys!

The sonic mood comes across well, but most everything else is shit. That`s the main reason I posted it...and because I stuggled with it for so long...couldn`t just scrap it.

I agree. A repeating delay with filter fall-off and a cataclysmic reverb on that sharp sound would do wonders for this fine track.

Nice mood here; very minimal which really appeals to me at the moment.

or different envelope settings, a bit longer attacks and a tad less decay in the amplitude env. and a filter envelope (lpf) with a longer attack to get that initial sharp attack off. Throughout the tune you could play with that, or make the envelopes velocity sensitive so that each hit sounds a tad different (it allready does, but could use more variation)

I must say I grew rather fond of the phasing going on. Neat tune you have here Barry. I am rather enjoying what you are doing here. :D

Hmmmm...Getting some good feedback about that korg poly6 vsti click/pop.

3:15am here, and I think i`ll give that project an hr or two medical treatment.(or an exorcism)

I`ll try all your suggestions on the poly6/try delay and all that too.(see what happens)
Maybe a freah mind can make it more complete. :)

Hi Annode,

I liked it. Nice vaguely atonal-at-times melody. was that played on a keyboard or guitar?, sounds like guitarish phrasing, but doesn't sound like guitar....

So you like the polysix plug? Most people seem to talk about the other 2 that com ewith that collection. Actually I have a real live Polysix, but never use it. maybe I should turn it on someday...

Anywy, really good spooky mood on that track.

I really liked this! I didn't think this mix was all that bad, actually I rather enjoyed it. The only thing that truly annoyed me is that the pop is too loud, too hard. This way it sounds very detached from the rest of the sounds. Now the pops disturbs my otherwise beautiful journey through your sounds because they seems so alien to the piece, in my ears. I guess lowering it in volume would help already but I think that the delay / reverb suggestions that were made earlier are a better solution. :0

There are some small sounds in there that perhaps could have been more clear, some what brighter & sharper but otherwise not a bad mix. This way it give you something to explore in your soundscape. I like the phasing effect you’ve put into the sounds, gives it a dynamic sense.

In conclusion, I like it… hmm, that’s the same as what I opened with…oh well
Thanks for sharing.

this is very nice - but that pop! well, you know that already, and I think with Shane and Marks' suggestions you can tame it.
but this is pretty cool;I like that guitar phrasing sound, I'll be interested in how you did that.

Hey there Zoing!

I was supprised to see this post back on page 1...since it rolled off onto 2.

Yes,the guitar was played on keys using "hypersonic"and the "atmos lead + pad" preset edited, plus the GRM Contrast and double delay effects,w/hard EQ.
I modeled the guitar sound and playing after a guitarist named Terje Rypdal.(think I spelled his name right...not sure)

So far I like the poly six!
It`s somewhat like the prophet5..which I own,but needs some electronic work.

I`m in the near end of redoing this ditty.
Since the post rolled of the first page,I wasn`t going to post it in here.
But now that you wrote a reply, and bumped me back up...I`ll finish it and post it here! :)

As I spoke of above,I was really frustrated in what happened to the sound quality...and still am in the newer version, but not as much.
I`m trying to understand what`s really happening.
Is it my CPU riding between 50-80% ?
My Hi-Q EQing?
Or am I discovering that vsti just doen`t mix well with one another?
Or maybe these mackie monitors?/sony MDR-7505 phones?(doubt that)
My pc is very new and powerful, but when I do a complex project w/vsti,The bigger it gets, the worse it sounds.

Thanx for replying to my post, and taking it for face value, and saying you liked it! :D

Later Zoing.
Barry.

HI austere and bluedad!

Thanx for the feedback and approval! :)

I re-did the ditty, and will post it this morn when finished.
I did away w/that pop all together...It`s not that bad when playing the project back here...but the mixdown and mp3 made it worse...I do agree it`s real anoying.

Tried to clean it up more, edited some midi, and many other things.
Hope it still sounds as creepy.

Hey Annode

I have an album by him, (terje rypdal I mean) 'after the rain' I think its called. haven't listened to it in years, must do so again... I think I can spot the influence now that you mention it.

I heard your song at work yesterday (got broadband there) but only through cheap earbuds, so any sound issues were lost on me.

cheers!

Post

Hi Zoing.
I have one LP of his as well.
Packed away in the LP archives...forget the name, darkesh blue cover.

Always wanted to do a full avantgart jazz Rypdal project!
Maybe my next.
Also make a Beefheart/zoothorn rollo/eel winged fingerling guitar preset a while back...and thought about doing a Beefheart style song too!

This is very nice Barry, yes you said it would be kindof spooky sounding and it has that quality for sure but it is also well mixed as far I can tell, some eq problems here and there but nothing that is too hard to handle.
I tend to eq very little these days I too can make things worse when fooling around with it.

Also nice how you merged the two pieces together, they seem to fit comfortably.

And your welcome. 8)
