Someone discussing Richien when they don't know who he is, what he does or his historical output.

The fact they can't tell if he's a musician or a DJ speaks very loudly

He made some great minimal techno in one of his guises back in the day but my tastes leaned more towards the likes of Autechre, though I did buy Consumed when it was released it didnt click for me, though I enjoy it more now with twenty years having mellowed my taste in music

Sorry old chap, but whilst I often agree with your sentiments regarding modern music etc, your target is way off this time.
Hawtin was making techno music before a lot of today's producers were even born, eg this very acidy and famous techno album from 1994:

Yes, he has, his latest live recording is "Ex" under the Plastikman moniker. But if you look at the videos, you'll realize that he has a very live approach to recording, he almost don't use any sequencer. What he does is live recording in the studio that he then lightly edit.

Geez. Fine if you dont know who he is, just trust that he is the a true legend in that scene and not some random teenage Ableton DJ, and that believe it or not, he has paid enough dues to be that much of a c**t. He has vinyl releases older than most of his fans and has been playing raves since before they were called that.

I love him. Probably one of my biggest subconscious influences. Ive seen him live many, many times. And was the biggest thing Id ever heard.

JOKING ASIDE (which I believe I've mentioned more than once) there IS no more money in selling music. It's ALL about live performances and social media following (virtual)

AND, Techno musicians (see what I did there? ) make mad-cash for performing live (unless they are idiots)

I have nothing against the guy, I don't even dislike what I've heard, I'm just saying that being bummed about not making money over "record sales" is pretty weird.

See "Artifact" (even if you hate "30 seconds to mars" )

Edit, plus he has awesome hair.....I don't have anymore....so mad props! (seriously)

Times have changed and people have moved on. Used to be that clubbers would by cd's to listen to the music they raved to at home, now they do Spotify or watch Game of Thrones.
It's not the nineties anymore, techno and all the sub genres just aren't as popular as a listening at home experience but people still want to go to a club and rave. It's not hard to understand... Hawtin should be happy he's still got the live thing.
