Cool. The vocal effects and guitar bits are nice. You got a bit of gradue at the end though... Definitely one of my favorites from you!

Is everyone enamored with 80s thinth-pop or what? I hear those cheesy keys back there! :D

Hehe, i think a lot of people into synths liked that era because it was so 'synthetic'. That said the 80s nostalgia has now given way to the 90s nostalgia. I look forward to the first K-v-R 90s competition.

Exactly. And then what will the K-v-R 00s competition mean? :?:

I tagged my socks, but the tags keep getting wershed out everytime I wersh em. :P

More Reviews:

Bastien Phelps - Nice dark dance tune. The mix is nice, but I might tame the cymbals a little (just personal pref, they sound good where they're at). Cool ending. I think this song could use a rippin lead, maybe something a little on the dnb side.

Richie Bee - The groove is nice, but some of those sounds are not. It kinda reminds me of a demo song on a keyboard. The horns sound pretty good on the low notes, but the highs just bring out the fakeness. A nice listen overall, it's nice to hear some disco to mix things up.

Spyro/ET - As mentioned already, this is a sweet song. The voice is definitly sellable, unique and full of character. The mix is great, but it seems that it is not really glued together. Sounds more like a bunch of parts playing alongside each other. I found the ending dissappointing, but I'm sure that's due to the 2 min. limit. Good stuff!

Ianweb - Cool sounds. Reminds me a little of "The build". Great job of showing off Krakli, makes me want to visit your site again. I think the pads could come down a tiny bit. I like the change at 1:04, but I expected it to build up more and expand out.

Earth Tones - This is well done, but I don't like it. Maybe if I hear it a few more times the suggestions will work their way into my subconscious  :D. Don't get me wrong, it is well done and the mix is great (vocals too), just not my steylo. You definitly captured the eighties feel.
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

LadyJ, you slipped your entry in while I was writing the reviews, so here is yours:

LadyJ - Short, but sweet! The vocals are really great! I can't understand what you are saying half the time, but it doesn't matter. I like the fact that you kept it short, but the ending seems so abrupt. The good thing is that it leaves me wanting more. I also like how you created an eighties-ish feel, yet it still sounds modern as well. Cheers!

You guys have been busy... I'm offline couple of days, and boom, milions of posts... who can keep up, man :)
You should try to slow down, at least in summer. Try to notice the sun, the sea (some of you) and the nature around you :) Yeah yeah, I know, I've been to the nature today... soooo peaceful... in the mountains, looking to the sea, I had BBQ with friends and stuff... will do that more often... now to try to listen some of your songs...

In the begining was nothing...

Just endless chat about useless trivia :)

Post

Some good songs already despite the Sock-rates trivia.

I've got a lyric and 3/4 of a tune so far. Maybe I'll wait for my SonicSynth bundle and initiate it into the
monthly madness. I've noticed a distinctly laid back feel this month - a reaction perhaps!

You mean this crap? I did that for the ol' sci-fi thing and I didn't win big so I'm not sure what the merits were.  I do actually follow those rules all the time but my usual fare just doesn't support much layering or orchestrating.
Yip, that's the stuff. Must confess, because of what you wrote, when I did the brass section of my entry, I paid alot more attention, and did a proper 4 part harmony thing. I wouldn't say I went an extra mile, but a good couple of hundred yards at least!
Griels wrote:By the way Duncan Parsons, stop stealing my ideas. You're even APING my singing style
Nah, mate. You nicked it off me - I've heard about your time machine... :D I've been writing off beat jazz styled stuff for years. I used to have a conceptual band 'The Non-Stop Random Access Jazz Band' which was all prog/beatnik stuff, with my appalling vox appearing every now and then... :scared:

{EDIT}Does this mean you a planning a SteelyDanTheyMightBeGiantsQuantumJumpJoniMitchell inspired toon this month as well? :help: {/EDIT}

here with some more reviews:
To Reiterate: I've decided to do my reviews in Cups of Tea - from 100%CoT (compleatly (sic) my Cup of Tea) to -100%CoT (that's not my Cup of Tea), through 0%COT (total ambivalence). A CoT rating is purely personal and doesn't mean it's a superb or poor piece (it's more to do with taste), don't shoot the message source! My comments will flesh out what I think of the sound, etc!

LadyJ 61%CoT
The backing reminds me of Human League, and the Vocoded vox are great. It's a professional mix. You ever hear Buggles? (Video Killed the Radio Star was their big hit) The content of your song reminded me of their 'Age of Plastic' LP. A great Prog/NewWave offering, of bleak futuristic tones. btw, WinMediaPlayer quotes the toon as being 3:05, but it ain't! Wonder what's going on!?!

RichieBee 77%CoT
Sounds like a 70's cop/private investigator theme - Like Magnum, Professionals, Starsky & Hutch etc. Great feel. You'r out by 3 Seconds, btw, not that I wouldn't vote for you based on that!

EarthTones 55%CoT
Has a trace of Joe Jackson's Steppin' Out - good call! Very good sound - very clear. Cheery song! Good work :)

Kriminal 24%CoT
The CoT doesn't reflect the standard of the piece - just my taste. This is really well done, so far as I know the style. I like those squelches. For me it doesn't particularly go anywhere, but hey that's an old progger here, and everyone knows that prog is music for people with short attention spans - why else would it change every 30 bars?

Spyro/ET conglomerate 23%CoT
The vocal is very interesting, and well sung. I like the delay/verb on it - sits well. The backing is quite world musicky to me, which is really nice. The CoT rating only suggests my listening taste, but I really appreciate what you have done here. Nice Flute.

Krakli 78%CoT
Dig the Atmos - have you ever heard Anthony Phillips 1984 album. This reminded me of that - big compliment btw! We really should hear more from you. The lead lines work well together, I like that sustained guitar sound sitting back in the mix - very effective. Good work!

Really good quality already this month. And ALOT easier on the old ears!

All I know is that when I play the original file in winamp or Windows Media Player the ID3 tag is there. This is the exact same file I uploaded. :o

When I play the file downloaded from the site the ID3 tag is missing :-o

Wierd Indeed.

@ the rest

I can only hope to have a tune for the contest, but knowing the Southport weekend (or I should almost say week for me). I'm probably not gonna be able to do much reviewing this month.

That said, I'll still try though 8)
