Voted for #1. Not sure if it's the one that is the most similar to the Pro One filter because I've never played a Pro One, but it reminds me very much of the Polivoks which I used to own for a very short while. It is also unlike any filter in any other virtual synth I have and I like its sound and character a lot.

Even if it's not picked by Urs and the team as the filter that will be used in RePro-1, it would be fantastic to have this filter in some other U-He product in the future.

And once again, thank you for this free Alpha release, it is an amazing instrument in its own right.

Maybe a Polivoks or Wasp emu might come in handy ;-)
nasty doesn't always mean bad 8)
do you know by any chance what filter was used in the yamaha CS01mkII ? was a 24db filter but can't find any info on it. my guess is that they used a curtis filter too....but maybe it's an in house design.
by listening to CS01 II demos I hear a bit of the ressy piercing fizz of n.1.
btw n.1 is not nasty at all till 45 Res...it adds grit and presence...it's only after 45 Res it becomes nasty...and in this case probably not in a good way as it is really harsh (though maybe playing with the env/mod amount can find some sweet spots)

Thanks u-he!
I'm still not voting 'cause defining "analog" is very difficult even if i have analog synth experience since 1985.
I can tell that 3, 4, 5 are my favs. (tried some serious mod from osc b at pretty hi resonance)
3 and 4 are kind of harsher and bad mofos (3 sound more "digital" than 4 to my ears).
5 is softer.
For some reason i tend to associate the concept and feeling of "soft" to analog.
So my favs are 4 and 5. I'd like to have both in the finale version :-)

I think that 4 sounds more vivid, but i like the 5 roundness too.
I've never owned a Prophet Pro so i can't tell about emulation quality.

Black knobs on a black background works perfectly well on a real life hardware synth. But on an image? Black knobs on black background?

Is contrast such a terrible thing?

Post

Background is not black, though. There's enough contrast on the GUI over here, everything's perfectly legible...

Sometimes it is. Well, ok, not really ;) Shamefully, I’ve done more typing than testing. But, if you cleaned up Model 1 a bit, it’d surely give a really nice PPG style sound to some wavetables, huh?

Give it a some time though.. I’m still surprised how people immediately concluded there’s big differences, rather than noting how control 1 through 5 are varying the range/rate of the modulation, in combination with adjusting the resonance shape. Don’t use those two controls and you won’t notice a difference as far as I can tell.

Use those and it’s kind of a matter of taste ..until you go up into the highest octaves. Yeah, when you eventually stop doing basslines (!), and reach to your right or press transpose, then set the rate to max, all of a sudden your ears may notice some things.. Consider this a tip :dog:

I’d like to be the first to hearby offer an apology to the much maligned model number 5. :tu:

Then I have two words for you: good riddance!

Would more contrast make it difficult for you to vew the GUI?

Different, but still shows how 4 and 3 (my fav ;)) are good! Thanks for the comparisons!

 Agreed. If you're doing some basic detuned sawtooth, sure, you're not going to hear a giant difference, but as Urs said, this is about how things break when pushed, and in that respect there is a big difference.

Am I the only one who wants to hear this filter on a wavetable engine? :hyper:
